I think I got The Real for something like $35 from DVDHeaven. Granted I had to pay postage from Korea, but it wasn't too bad!
It IS super shiny, and I love it so much! I can't wait until the concert DVD is out (sometime this month, I heard).
Most twdramas aren't that crazy. Well, they have the requisite craziness, but they're often quite angsty too (my favorite twdrama was all fun and romantic until, literally, everyone died). I personally think they're a nice mix between jdramas and kdramas! Shan Bao Mei is on the cracktastic side! Have you seen the rocket-penis yet?!
I hope it's not Region 3! The Real and The Great weren't, but of course Global Warming had to go and screw that up....
Oh no, it's totally understandable! I thought that all kdramas were tragic before I had even seen any! Oh, what other twdrama have you seen?! Twdramas are my favorites. They're usually not as well produced (and God, production SUCKS), but the stories are often really good IMO. Course, I AM biased!
It's called Love Contract, and it's SUCH a good drama, but if you do watch it, spoil yourself for the ending. Otherwise it will rip your heart to shreds with it6's random death and depression in THE LAST EPISODE.
I saw a picspam someone did at one point, and man, gotta hand it to Taiwan, they really outdid themselves. Like, the sex scene in Fated to Love You involved images of rockets blasting off and trains entering tunnels.
Ah! I think you told me that before... That's another one I haven't seen.
The impression I get from kdramas is that they have the fun comedic ones, but then they also have the crazy tragic ones. Twdramas are more middle of the road. They almost always end happily (I can think of only 4 that aren't happy endings), but often there's a lot of angst and stuff before the happiness.
I KNOW! And it has this totally screwed up ending. Or rather, endings (there's three). But it's totally worth seeing! It's one of the best things I've ever watched.
You will definitely see gay people in twdramas! Taiwan is very liberal in that way. They gay stuff they put out is really good too. My favorite movie, like, EVER is a gay movie from Taiwan. Korea does seem super conservative!
I LOVE Big Bang albums, they're always just SO nice. The Big Show CD has to be one of their best though. Oh, the pop up. It's kinda sad that I bought it basically because of the pop up...
Hehe, if there's one thing twdramas do well, it's random craziness. Even in serious dramas, there's always some sort of bizarre happenings.
Ah, lucky! I wish we had Korean stores here... though I am going to NYC next weekend, maybe I can try to find a store there...
I think the biggest problem with twdramas is their length. Twdramas are LONG, and thus tend to drag a lot in the middle. Hahaha! Evil foreigners?! That's so funny! Usually twdramas have a good representation of foreigners!
I'm sure there's something. I hear they even have a Koreantown there! We only have a Chinatown in Boston.
HAHAHA!! OMG that's SO cracktastic! I've seen some anti-western stuff before, but nothing so blatant! That actually surprises me, since Taiwanese people are so receptive to foreigners.
