and a really good one at that!
zelda_zee, i hope you were pleased. :-)

totally surprised me when he got shot - didn't see that coming.  and i love how even with a gunshot wound, he's checking everything out and noticing things that don't fit, all the while playing nice with the "last remaining member of the dharma intiative."  sayid, you kick so much ass, it's not even funny.

the backstory was compelling - it was interesting to see sayid on the other side of that situation.  it brings up a lot of moral questions - how many people wrongly confessed to him under duress?  is it wrong for him to get just as good as he got?  an eye for an eye - that certainly seems to be the moral code of the Others.  we've seen the way he came to be a torturer, but does that matter to the people he tortured?  do they deserve their vengeance?  it reminds me of the movie "hard candy," where this teenage girl seduces and then tortures this guy who likes to meet young teens online.  overall, i like the message of forgiveness more than that of revenge, although i think sayid is putting all of them in grave danger.  there's a difference between showing mercy to someone who is genuinely sorry and not keeping the scary-ass other who pledges to kill you alive.

"your move" - i liked the symbolism of the chess game for the whole episode.  but, wtf locke?  you go into some stranger's place after he's shot your friend, and you sit down for a game of computer chess?  i know he's socially awkward, but come on!  how about making yourself useful and reading up on some of those dharma manuals?  or, i don't know, keeping an eye on the guy tied up right by you?  i used to love locke, but they're writing him as so stupid right now.  i don't know if it's intentional or just oversight, but i just feel like it's wasted potential with such an intriguing character.

miss klugh!  i was just wondering if we were going to see her again.  and then she's dead!  i'm kind of bummed by that - she was creepy, i liked her.

i'm still not sure if dharma and the others are one and the same, or if there were actually natives on the island before they got there.  the remains of that foot statue makes me think there may have been people there for quite a while.  but i kind of like that i'm not sure.

and you've all been posting fic!  i can't wait to catch up on this week/weekend. :-)
