For All You Movie Buffs

I've always been an ardent despiser of Michael Moore.  But after recently reading an article posted online that linked me to a myriad of other articles, I've come to realize that the "great" filmmaker is even more vile than I first imagined.  My  first encounters with Moore came out of my high school years when many students jumped on the bandwagon and traded rational thought for idiocy by actually believing everything this guy said.  Stupid White Men, his bestselling book, repeatedly angered me, but after seeing Bowling For Columbine, a skewed, misinformed movie about gun control, I took Moore as more of a joke than a serious satirist.  Unfortunately, not everyone had the common sense to oppose him.

After Moore's visit to BC last fall, it was made clear to me how stupid he actually is.  During his speech, he spent about 1/4 of his time simply mocking the current administration using whiny mimicking voices as a three year old would make while mocking a friend.  Sadly, the audience laughed at this.  They didn't laugh however, when Moore's cirticism of Bush for allegedly having financial ties to the Saudi Royal Family (claims that are unsubstantiated but incriminating because of alleged terror ties of the family to terror organizations) backfired.  When asked about Moore's knowledge of a certain Saudi prince, Moore replied that he didn't know of such a prince.  That prince, it turns out, donates upwards of fifty million dollars annualy to Disney and Mirimax, the promoters of Michael Moore's own films.  In response, Moore changed the topic.  When asked about his private donations to "Charitable organizations" in comparison to his salary, Moore noted that he earned about 40 Million dollars in 2002 and donated "about 200,000 dollars to whoever will take Bush out of office."  Moore obviously doesn't understand the meaning of charity or charitable giving considering his "donations" were still less than .5% of his income.  While playing a game of "stump the yankee," Moore pitted an "A Student" from BC that was American against an "average" Canadian student.  Asking questions about the opposite country of the two students, the Canadian obviously aswered more correctly than the American.  Moore was trying to prove the point that Americans are ignorant and uneducated.  Sadly, he forgot to factor in that Canada is almost invisible in foreign affairs and in the media while America is the most publicized country and has the most social and political dominance in the world of any country.  Also, the Canadian student was living and studying in America, not vice versa.  Of course the Canadian would know all about America he had been experiencing it every day for the previous 2 years (he was a junior).  Moore's blatant ignorance and attempts to deceive make ironic his accusations and criticisms of the Bush Administrations policies.  When I say ironic, I mean flagrantly hypocritical.  You're a fool if you believe Michael Moore is a reliable or even intelligent satirist.

So I read this article which rekindled my discontent.  Educate yourselves as well.
