I had dinner last Saturday with high school friends at Trio, located at the 2nd floor of the Fort Strip (above Pasto). It has been a while since I last ate here - the advent of Serendra and High Street offered a new slew of before-gimik dinner spots at the Fort. Coming back to Trio was a welcome surprise. It still offered the same low-key pasta and risotto dishes that I love at very reasonable prices. We ordered the Trio Sampler, a trio of dips - pesto, pate and salsa, Tenderloin Risotto, Bistro Pasta, and Porkchop with Two Sauces. The risotto was very good with that perfect al dente bite, and although the meat was a tad overcooked, it was well seasoned. The Bistro Pasta was generously laden with battered shrimp and cream and we quickly polished it off. I was disappointed with the two-sauce chop though; a porkchop lover like me just couldn't accept the puny slice of breaded (horrors!) meat could be called a porkchop! It was served with buttered veggies and rice..ho hum. To add insult to injury, I was seriously underwhelmed with both of the sauces. I would not order it again nor recommend it to anyone. Sniff.
Although our tummies were already protesting, we couldn't pass up on the desserts and chose two - the Tiramisu and their bestseller, the Sienna - a chocolate ganache in caramel with oreo cookie crust. Both desserts were super delicious! Sayang we just couldn't finish everything because we were so full.
Customer service was 50/50. They seemed to be understaffed and so it was hard to get the servers' attention. But once you're lucky enough to be noticed by the servers, you can't help but be mollified by their very competent and polite demeanors.
It was a very satisfying dinner and I was reminded of all the reasons why I used to frequent this lovely restaurant. I'll definitely be going back more often now.
