Tascha & I were more than just a little early so we went to McDonald's. Some guy was threatening to beat his kids because they didn't hold the door for him so he dropped his oh-so-expensive RIBS!
Give me a break.
Then we went to an instrument store and played around on the keyboards making awesome techno beats. I want that keyboard! It even had a key that said, "no! no! no!"
Good stuff.
The show kind of started around 9:30, I guess. We sat around and talked until then.
Matt Lethal(?) started it off with the theme song from Family Guy.
Of course there are like....jackasses who have to be rude to the artists that aren't the main attraction. Douchebags. They kept doing Chapelle's "I'm Rick James, bitch!"
Yes, it was funny on the show. Yes, it's funny when you walk around saying it. No, it's not funny the fourth time around.
Then Grand Buffet hit the stage. Seriously, I had no idea what to expect. It was crazy. It was two dudes just....doin' their thing, I guess. It was alright. Best part:
One of the guys from Grand Buffet was like, "Did anyone go to Subway today?" (because he was on this political kick, you know)
And the guy who thought he was Dave Chapelle was like, "YEA!"
Dude goes, "What did you have?"
"A veggie sub!"
"WHAT!?!?!? A VEGGIE SUB?! YOU'RE IN AMERICA. IN AMERICA, YOU EAT ROAST BEEF!"
And everyone laughed. The guy had the fucking HUSH MOUTH for the rest of the set.
Sage Francis & the Gimme Fund came on. Oh man, they were like....this emo-looking band, it was so damn great; two guys w/ guitars and a drum machine. It was just....good, because I thought it was gonna damn suck.
He did a lot from
Personal Journals.
The best part about his presence is that he makes eye contact. Like...serious eye contact. He'll do a whole verse while staring into your eyes. Nice.
Then he introduced his friend, Manic Expressions, who did a couple of spoken word pieces, serious shit. He was damn good.
Sage Francis went back up there and....some other guy. I seriously can't remember his name, I think he was with Nonprophets.
They did a few pieces that I recognized. "Different", "Narcissist."
!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And ended with "Makeshift Patriot"
I almost cried, I was that happy.
I wish he would have done "come come now", just so I could see his face when he said, "the notches on your bedpost." But that's because I'm obsessed with that song.
He did this one that touched on rough sex and he was like, "She likes to dance to my heartbeat, but I've got a heart murmur" or something.
The way he said it, was like...woah. Intense.
