Life, living, awake. We are born into this world, and then left wondering through it until some ultimate end. We continue down a path that is either created for us, or planned by some ultimate designer; either way we are all just beings groping in the dark for something stable to hold onto. We as a species are purpose driven, so of course we would try to instill some kind of purpose to us existing. The thought of us being here for absolutely no reason is a foreign concept that can chill us to the bone. There is no rule book, no “life faq”, no metric to use to tell how well we’re doing. Humans are out in no man’s land running a race that we hope has a finish line at the end. If at the end of it all, all that is waiting for us is a giant cosmic “reset” button, who decides when the final cycle is concluded. For all anyone really knows we are just ants in some farm located in some distant corner of the universe, there for the amusement of others.

Should we let the fear of the unknown keep us from our “purpose”? Only if one is ready to miss out on the best things of their existence, a lifetime of experiences. This world is vast, this world is scary, and this world is here for the taking. If one is not scared of this world, they are simply lying to themselves. This world is full of pain, love, heartache, triumph, sadness, thrills, and enough adjectives to fill a vault. Only way to survive this world, to enjoy it, and to not be consumed by it is to open yourself to it. One can not only open themselves to the good; by doing so they would only be cheating and fooling themselves. All aspects of life are about balance; good with the bad, darkness with the light, yin and the yang. If no one was to ever experience the lows that life had to offer how would we ever appreciate the highs? We have to learn to not only deal with the painful things, but to cherish them as much as the good things that happen to us.

Major aspect of opening one’s self to the world means opening one’s self to others. That one simple act can be the most terrifying thing anyone can experience. We fear making tight bonds with those around us, be them lovers or friends, because we fear the “freefall” that comes from having the bonds break and us falling back down into the darkness. Everybody wants a companion, a co-pilot, a solid anchor they can tie onto to help them on the blind journey called life. It’s in human’s genetic makeup to seek out others to fight off the loneliness they dread feeling so much. The biggest gamble people take is allowing others into their worlds, their hearts, and allowing them to be a candle in the dark world. That light makes the realization that the only purpose of life may simple be to not have one something we can live with.
