You know what's been bugging me since yesterday? People judging other people by how they look. The outside has very little to do with the inside. I mean, it should reflect how they see themselves, but... for example, some people see goths as violent and angry. But you know what? They're usually not. They tend to be the nicest people I know.
Two girls from my school did an experiment. They're preps. They walked around the mall one day, and observed how they were treated. The next day, they dressed up as punk/goth, and observed. At the mall by average people, they were treated no different, aside from an occasional evil glance. Then they went around a neighborhood (not their own). Big difference. They noticed that the people completely misjudged them and treated them as unwelcome when they were dressed alternatively, even by younger people. They concluded that people don't care when you're a stranger, but when you might live nearby, it's different.
I decided to copy this. See, all of my friends know about the no-piercing rule. Therefore, I decided to change myself dramatically by wearing all black, spikes, and fake earrings, one on my right cartiledge, and the other on my lip. They're blue and green spikey earrings (uncomfortable slightly on the lip). People at school were surprised, but my friends didn't treat me any different. I didn't get many more looks than usual, but then again, I tend to get a lot anyways.
I figured that maybe people don't judge... until I got off of the bus. As I was walking home, I noticed a neighbor of mine was having trouble getting groceries out of her van. Now, she doesn't know me, probably has never seen me, and I don't really know her, but my good-samaritan instinct kicks in, and I decide to help her out. She immediately spots me with a look of panic on her face. I pick up a bag she has dropped, and she says, "It's okay... I've got it. Don't worry." She immediately snatches it from me and rushes inside, forgetting to close the van door.
That bugs me. Anyone else?
