Title: The One Where Everything Would Be Fine If Zach Was A Little Bit Smarter
Pairing: Chris Pine/Zachary Quinto
Rating: Oh god, guys, I suck at ratings. There's some bad language here and no porn. I doubt there's anything you can't deal with. Although, if this turns out not to be the case, tell me and I'll warn for it.
Summary: Meet Zachary Quinto, actor and idiot.
Notes: This is the longest piece of fiction I have ever written. I sincerely doubt that it's much good, but I hope people like it anyway.
More Notes: Thank you so much to everyone who has read and commented on this fic - you guys have made me grin like a fool. By the time I came to post this I was beginning to wonder if it wasn't just... well, bit rubbish. But it's turned into the most popular thing I've ever written, and that - and your encouragement - has made me feel fantastic. So, once again, thank you!
Chapter One Chapter Two Chapter Three Chapter Four Chapter Five Chapter Six Chapter Seven Chapter Eight EPILOGUE
After a day of interviews about the Star Trek sequel, Zach knocks on the door of Chris’ hotel room. He can’t help looking shiftily around the deserted corridor, even though he knows that all any stranger is likely to see is a guy visiting his friend. Nothing out of the ordinary about that
Chris looks a little down when he come to the door, but when he sees who it is his smile is like the sun breaking through clouds. “Come in,” he says. “Long time no see.”
“We were together all day,” Zach points out reasonably as he shuts the door behind him.
“Well, yeah,” Chris replies, casually pressing Zach up against the wall, “But that was in front of people. And so I couldn’t do things like this…” He presses his mouth to the place where Zach’s neck meets his shoulder, tugging on the faded collar of Zach’s shirt for better access.
“That’s a good point,” Zach mumbles vaguely, having abruptly forgotten what they were talking about.
“Hm… but before we get too carried away -“
Zach makes an inarticulate protest. What’s could be wrong with getting carried away?
“Before we get carried away, I was thinking… Okay, this is serious, come sit on the bed.”
Zach does as he’s told, suddenly worried. Is Chris going to decide that this isn’t worth it? That he’s better off with someone who’s less of a complete idiot? Someone who’d never dream of keeping him waiting for almost a whole year? He waits with baited breath.
“Zach, I was thinking. Aren’t we a little old to be sneaking around? Couldn’t we maybe just tell people? I mean, the whole cast knows. Out parents know. Our friends know. Some days it seems like more people know than not. What do you think?”
Zach is, as ever, shamefully inarticulate around this guy. In this instance, Chris mistakes his hesitation for reluctance.
“I mean, I’ll understand if you say no. I don’t want you to feel like you have to do anything, no matter what happened before.” Chris’ cerulean eyes look searchingly into Zach’s face.
Zach blurts out, “But I do need to make it up to you. What happened before. I was an idiot.”
“Not like this,” says Chris, hurriedly. “You know that sexual favours for the rest of my life will do just fine for that.”
They laugh, a little nervously.
“So,” says Zach, “what do you think the press release should say?”
Chris smiles another blinding smile. “How about: ‘Pine and Quinto are fucking like bunnies and want the world to know’?”
“Lacks a little something, don’t you think?”
“Well, what about: ‘Zachary Quinto has been trapped in Chris Pine’s web of handsomeness and has no desire to escape’?”
“Nah. Maybe this press release thing is too much for your brain to handle. Maybe we should do a sex tape instead…”
“Maybe we could pay someone to write it across the sky in pink smoke.”
“Maybe we could hold hands and skip down the red carpet.”
“Maybe you should shut up and kiss me.”
“Maybe I should…”
