So I've been staying busy. I kayaked both this Sunday and the previous. Last Sunday I traveled up stream and found a picnic area along the side of the creek. I couldn't go further up stream because the creek narrows and becomes to swift to paddle against. I stopped and ate some food I brought along. After thirty minutes I went back. I saw my first snake on this trip. Not sure what kind it was. I didn't get close. It was floating on top of the water, holding its head up to see. It wriggle/swam to the shore and disappeared in the grass.

This Sunday was a nature fest. I saw not one, not two, but three Musk Rats. I saw a Hawk and a Crane. I saw a box turtle swiming (rather amusing, box turtles are lousy swimmers). I also noticed a new wild flower in bloom. This plant was especially striking. It had 2-3" diameter trumpet shaped white flowers, the inner centers of which were a dark red. Very striking. I saw this flower in bloom at several locations along the creek.

I finished my third pair of shorts last week. This pair is my best so far. It was a little more challenging too because I made these with a printed horizontal striped fabric. I managed to get the stripes on the two legs to match up well. I equiped these shorts with belt loops, foregoing the eyelets and front tie closure. I went to Walmart a couple days later to buy some more fabric for my next couple projects (a new wallet and a white casual shirt) and the lady who's been selling me the fabric ask when I was going to bring what I'd done. I pointed to the shorts I was wearing. She was so surprised. She didn't realize I was wearing shorts I'd made. They fooled her! You can tell, if you look closely though. I'm stitching isn't as straight has it should be and one of the darts pokes out a little.

So my Calculus class is almost over with. Thursday is the last day. Then I have two weeks off before school starts. I'll be taking my C++ test then. I'm so busy with so many things right now.

I made some lamb and turnip soup last night that turned out tasting really good. It was a combination of advice from Linda and the spices from this Pakistani recipe I found online. I was missing some Coriander, but it still turned out yummy. The carrot soup I made last week is crummy compared to this. I'm amazed at how tender and flavorful the lamb cubes stayed, even though they were cooked for two hours. Per Linda's advice I browned them first. That must have made a difference. I'm so used to dry flavorless chewy stew meat--the specimens I tried to eat at MCV after my lung operation way back last September being the worst!
