Hammerfest!

Well, I competed in my first collegiate sporting event on Sunday. I was 1 of 7 people in the triathlon club (the others being Will, Rosetta, Kathy, Shannon, and the twins, Amy and Emily) who went to Hammerfest for our first NECTC meet, and as a team we were pretty successful. The final college results aren't in yet, but I'm pretty sure we beat BU, MIT, NYU (if they actually came), and we may have beat Yale as well which is cool because they were essentially the host team. Syracuse was easily the best in attendance, but they had grad students scoring and that's a bit unfair since triathletes tend to peak at the sprint distance between 28 and 32. Anyway, here are my splits:

Swim - 18:41 (221st)
Transition 1 - 1:33 (149th)
Bike - 35:10 (29th)
Transition 2 - 1:10 (245th)
Run - 25:11 (32nd)

Total Time - 1:21:45 (49th out of 323 finishers, 6th out of 15 in my age group)

I was satisfied with my performance, especially in the run. My time was only 13 seconds/mile slower than I ran for the XC time trial, which I find quite impressive. Even the swim went well, although that was due in no small part to the fact that I borrowed Hazel's wetsuit. I'm going to use it again this Saturday at Colby for the Regionals, and I'm hoping I can take 8-10 minutes off my this time. Yeah, it's ambitious, but I think I have it in me. Besides, there's a good chance we're going to the Nationals in April, if we can raise enough money to fly 6 of us to Tuscaloosa that is. We have time.

As for today, Geography and Mechanics went as usual, and C++ was easy because I did all my assignments until October last week. After a nap, I went to practice with Rosetta and Kathy where we did a bike-run-bike sequence that finished at the waterfront so we could watch the sunset across the lake. Since their was some thick cloud cover overhead, it made everything look golden and quite pretty, but it was also quite windy and it cooled off quickly. After that, we all went our separate ways, and I had to wait an additional hour before dinner because I decided to participate in the CAB elections, but hopefully it was worth it.

I have a test in C++ tomorrow, so I should probably get some sleep now. Good night.
