Calling ALL
MC's DJ's, Rappers Dancers Artists
as well as all Creative & Progressive Organizations
come be an OFFICIAL part of the 8th Annual Universal Hip-Hop Parade
The hip hop community is taking it to the streets in a lively, friendly, peaceful and fun-filled parade that steps off at 3 PM from the intersection of Marcus Garvey Boulevard & Myrtle Avenue in the hip hop rich neighbourhood of
Bed-Stuy Brooklyn USA & finishes up on Fulton Street, dancing to a hip-hop beat all the way.
This annual cultural & educational festival is always held on the Saturday before the anniversary of Marcus Garvey's August 17th birthday to bring to mind that
Marcus Garvey himself also used popular culture as a tool to empower people and encouraged the growth of Black institutions. The parade emphasizes the actual social justice and community advocacy roots of
the creative culture of hip-hop as exemplified in this year's theme - “From the Pioneers to the Present - This is Hip-Hop”.
The parade features a wide variety of participants involving all the traditional elements of Hip Hop Culture including rappers & MC's; DJ's; break dancers and graffiti artists as well as singers, actors, stilt walkers, motorcycle & van clubs, graffiti banner displays, marching bands, sound trucks, dancers, elected officials and community activists both on floats and on foot.
