dental stuff, stress at school

question to throw out there, although I am a big bio person, I don't know too much about teeth (the basics yes), but I wanted to know if I really take care of my teeth and I b/p (once a day on average sometimes more sometimes less), what are my chances that I will do BIG damage to my teeth? I have been worried about it lately then the other night ( Read more... )

I think if you brush right afterwards and aren't b/p'ing that much you should be okay. My teeth are in excellent shape and I worship the porcelin god way more than I should. The brushing should help take care of any acid erosion. I'd be more worried about esophigeal damage.

No no no. You don't ever brush your teeth right afterwords. Because your stomach's digestive fluid is so acidic, it weakens the enamel (the protective outer layer of the teeth) when you purge. If you brush right afterwords, you'll further damage the already weak enamel, or even scrape it completely off. It'll come back, of course, but really try not to lose it if it's avoidable. After you purge (if you have to...), rinse your mouth out with water (take a few drinks, too, to help your throat) and brush your teeth about thirty minutes later.

I don't know about mouthwash, I haven't looked into it. I'm not sure how the alcohol in it would affect your teeth. Some mouthwashes have less alcohol than others (especially the newer ones; I think Crest makes an alcohol free one... maybe it's Colgate...), so maybe those would be better? As I said, though; I've never looked into it, so all I have a guesstimations. ^^

yeah I def wait to brush as to not dig the acid into my enamel, but I was hoping that the mouthwash could help, I also use it to hide the fact that I purged.//

don't brush right away b/c you'll rub the acid right into your enamel and it will cause more damage! thanks for the reply .. I love your icon. hehe

Oh crap, well I had the wrong info on that one. I have braces for another two weeks so if I don't brush right away I get food stuck, so it's extra nasty. I'll keep in mind to rinse/use listerine afterwards once these suckers are off.
