Here's a new one, to me, anyway:
“I call into question the very reasearch that you tout as truth, these very studies are bought and paid for by the anti-gun lobby and frankly not worth the paper they are printed on!!!”
I'm always a little suspicious when people dismiss large numbers of studies on the sole basis of the supposed funding source, but this particular claim seems especially far fetched. I don't doubt that there are anti-gun lobbyists in Washington, or even that they misrepresent data to support their political agenda, but are they really some well oiled machine that's funding a bunch of shoddy research? I doubt it. What, exactly, would they stand to gain? If guns really are so benign, why go to great lengths to fabricate risk? It makes sense that a profitable industry might churn out lots and lots of bogus data, but it's harder to imagine that "Big Gun Control" is engaged in the same sort of large scale fraud.
The quote, by the way, comes from a discussion I'm having with my cousin over Facebook.
