Beer Festival

Just got back from the beer festival and I'm so tired.

But it was awesome.

Got down there at just before 11 where everyone was just finishing setting up. The hall was quite big with a stage and there were two bars, all the ales were alphabetical, by brewery.

Our side had Mo-Z. We had some odd sounding beers. Sign of Spring. Cornish Knockers, Roaring Meg, Old Perculiar, Old Thumper, Pitchfolk, Head, Station Porter, Trembling Rabbit and those are only the ones I can remember, mainly because they were the most popular.

The Sign of Spring ale was GREEN. Honestly. I even tried it, although I didn't like it.

There was also grapefruit beer which I tried and yes it tasted very strongly of grapefruit, but I couldn't stand the ale part.

Anyway it was fairly busy and at 1 I popped off to get a sandwich. It was a lovely sunny day and a lot of people were drinking outside.

The way it works is you buy a bunch of tokens and you're given a half pint glass. You say which ale you want, we fill it up to the line and you hand over how ever many tokens is marked on the keg.

We didn't run out of much in the morning, only a few very popular ones.

There was a live band of sorts. A folk band who played some instrumental stuff. There were two accordians, a flute and a mandaline...I think. Some small guitar. They were good.

And there was a guy on a stag thing, dressed up as a green fish thing from Star Wars. Jar Jar's people. Near the end of the morning session he got up on stage and danced with the band. My brother got a picture.

I sadly forgot my camera and only took one photo on my phone due to lack of space.

We finished around 3:30. I had planned to meet up with an old friend from sixth form drama, but I couldn't see him outside and it turns out I don't have the right mobile number. So I headed into town, looked around, spent so much time in Ottakers and was very good because I didn't buy a single book. If I had the money I'd spend it all in there. Bought a pasty, headed back to the sports centre and finished off my book.

The evening session started at 7 and that was busy. There was a live jazz band on who sang a few songs I recognised, but can't remember right now.

We ran out of nearly everything by the time I left and I got to keep my glass.
Pouring the ale was rather easy, didn't take long to get the hang of it, although I did spil some down my hand a few times and bumped into a guy with a full glass and got some on my shirt. I was just so glad I didn't drop any.

I had to leave early to catch my train home, although they weren't running so I caught a bus instead. Luckily the buses that run from the station go straight to Bath without messing around in small towns so I got home within half an hour.

All in all a great experience and I will certainly help out next year and maybe help out on the friday next time.

Now I'm really tired and tomorrow I don't have to do nothing. Bliss.
