Farewell Ayacon

Aug 23, 2013 22:10

So, the other thing I wanted to talk about was Ayacon. It was the last one, which is very sad because it's a great convention and I'd only got to go twice. However, it was a great last con.

Having crashed my car the day before I squeezed into the back of Sel's car along with Luke and Moose (DC was up front) For a little car it's surprising how much you can fit in. We got to the university without too much trouble and checked into our rooms which this year were on campus. DC and I shared a room which was supposed to be a twin, but was actually a double. However the beds just needed to be detached to make it a twin.

On the Friday we registered and while Luke, Sel and Moose went to a panel, DC and I went to watch 5 episodes of Cowboy Bebop on a cinema screen. I hadn't watched the anime in years and it was really cool watching it on a big screen. After that we bummed around until the opening ceremony which was pretty much some guy introducing the guests and saying hi. Not terribly interesting. After that we went to a panel about Penguins and their part in anime which was really good. Then we watched an odd film called King of Thorn which was okay, but I have no idea what was going on.

Then it was games room and bed.

On Saturday we (Sel, Moose and I) didn't get going very early and when we did we popped in and out of panels. We arrived late to the Norse Myth in Anime panel and the Starcraft tournament wasn't as good as last year. We did sit through the whole of Geek Pride, which was well worth it. Basically it was Matt Mercer (a regular guest/voice actor/nerd) talking about all things nerdy. We were also late to the Masquerade which was pretty good. In the evening we watched Attack on Titan, an anime I need to watch more of and listened to people telling ghost stories. Then it was games room and bed again.

On Sunday I started early so I could watch the first couple of episodes of Gurren Lagann an anime everyone was into years ago, but I never got round to watching and Fullmetal Alchemist which was also really good.
We caught some of the charity auction, but we used this time to get changed into pretty dresses for the last party. We sat through the closing ceremony and Sunday Night Live, which was not that bad, there was a great sketch between two guys dressed as Blackadder and Prince George. They sang a parody of a Les Mis song! Then it was the pub quiz which we did really badly, but then a lot of the questions were anime related. Duh.
Then it was the party! We only caught the end of it because we spent some more time in the games room, but we were there for the last hour of it. It took me a few minutes to get into the 'party mood' but it came and by the end of the party I was rocking and swaying along to Bohemian Rhapsody. It was a good night.

And then Monday we came home. Got a little lost coming out of Warwick uni, but thanks to a map and road signs we were back on the right track.

Overall, it was a fantastic weekend, overshadowed a little by the car accident, but not a lot. I mostly just forgot about it and enjoyed myself. It is really sad that this was the last one and I'll miss it.
