movies movies everywhere

After a nice brunch with Matty at the Grit I headed over and rented some movies. 3 in fact.

The first I watched was Dogville...
What most people say about it is very true. It takes a nice little while for it to get involved and catch your interest. But in the end it definitely works to the films advantage. At least for me it made me pay attention even more and the ending had a much more profound affect on me I think than if it had progressed any quicker. Nicole is amazing in it and so are some of the other actors. It is a pretty fucked up movie if you sit and think about it. Im not going to go into it really though because while I know that most people reading this arent going to go out and rent it on my suggeestion there might be that one that wants to and I dont want to take away from their experience of it. If you do though give it a chance and dont walk away from the first couple chapters. Bare it out.

The next movie was Matthew Barney's "Cremaster: The Order" (number 3 cycle).... To be completely honest I still dont know what to think of this movie. I need to read some literature on it I guess before I make any opinion on it. My mind just doesnt work on the level the movie resides on. I can say that it was very beautiful (aside from the band battle... which I didnt see as fitting).. and that it seems extreme precission was taken in design and orchastrating the film and the movements. Again not a movie many would appreciate but still worth the gander at.

And the last movie which I rented is one Ive already seen in the theatres but am glad to watch again... Texas Chainsaw Masacre. Might be going over to Mikes later to watch it along with Kill Bill Vol. 1. So that should be fun but if Im not doing that then I will be over at Matty's watching Life is Beautiful. Which surprisingly I havent watched yet.... war movies in whatever context just dont really do it for me. Oh and speaking of movies Friday before I went out I watched "Eyes Wide Shut" which contrary to most beliefs on the movie I enjoy very much and think if for nothing else one should respect the direction of the movie even if they dont care for the subject matter. But it put me in a weird mood for the rest of the night along with some other factors which I kind of went into after I got back home and decided to post to livejournal. And last night before I went out I watched "Gattaca" which reminded me why I love Jude Law. So that is my life today.
