Today (农历六月十四日) is 关圣帝公 's birthday, so me, anne and evelyn went to the Sze Yup temple in Glebe to pray. I assumed that we could just bring our normal offerings, ie. 5 oranges or other fruits but when we got there, it seems like we're the only ones who brought the least offerings (O_O) Other people brought lotsa fruits, and i saw roast ducks and many other offerings! Lol~ I didn't expect it to be so crowded either! The atmosphere was really nice thanks to the Lion Dance performance. They were giving out free roast pork, a glutinous rice ball with sweet filling and yeo's drinks. I was told off twice by the old ladies who were giving them out since i tried to grab a portion for evelyn and for requesting a plastic plate instead of holding the roast pork pieces on 3 pieces of serviettes (=_=") Sigh...
After we're done at the temple, we decided to walk to Chinatown since it's such a fine weather today (and also for a bit of light exercise). We came across many interesting shops. Some of them worth noting down include this second-hand bookshop Sappho Books & Cafe which has an interesting collection of 2nd-hand books . The cafe atmosphere was also quite unique...making it a perfect spot for a lazy afternoon tea & reading time. I grabbed one of those helium balloons just for fun (^_^), which I gave away later on during the day to a little boy in chinatown who kept staring at it lol~
= funny guy at the telephone booth
We also stopped by clipper cafe for some ice coffees and hot choco. The ice coffee was really nice but it would've been better with some ice cream (@^_^@)
Friday night market in chinatown:
Bought 2 polo buns and nearly bought okonomiyaki or takoyaki for late afternoon snack =P
On our way home, the bus sounded like it had a flat tire which made loud 'pop' noise throughout the journey. We had to get off at Kingsford coz the bus driver felt like the rest of the bus journey might no longer be safe for the passengers. I'm glad he talked to the bus driver from other bus and let us get a free ride for the remaining journey.
