truck

About two weeks ago, I changed the oil on my truck. While I was under the truck, I noticed that the paint was peeling off my oil pan. Being the curious person I am, I decided to pull away the peeling paint to expose the bare metal underneath. However, under the peeling paint I found flaking rust. So, I chipped away at the rust until I "assumed" was bare metal. I finished the oil change and all seemed good. But, all was not well. After running my truck, I'd notice that a small puddle of oil would be collected on the ground, directly underneath my truck. Sooo, I assumed that either 1. I didn't tighten the oil filter well enough, and the oil was leaking there or 2. the oil drain plug wasn't tightened enough, and the oil was dripping from there. So, here I am, laying on my garage floor, in a t-shirt and shorts (it's about 20 degrees outside, no heat in the garage..but at least no snow) checking for the source of the leaking oil. The sides of the pan were dry and there were no apparent oil trails from either the filter or the drain plug. The oil was dripping directly from the bottom of the oil pan itself! I'd wipe away the oil, and then in a matter of seconds, I'd see the oil begin to form on the bottom of the pan and slowly drip to the garage floor. I kept an old rag on the garage floor when I had my truck inside to at least contain the oil somewhat. Last week, I decided to finally bite the bullet and take it in to the shop. If I had a garage/lift and the necessary tools, I could do this job myself. But, being that I don't have access to a lift, it's best to let someone else do the work. I also opted for a transmission oil change and fuel filter change (may as well get everything done at once). I knew it was gonna be kinda expensive, to get the oil pan replaced, oil change, filter change, transmission oil change and fuel filter change. But, I had no idea it was gonna be this expensive! Yikes! The bill comes to $742.29!! Soooo, I'll be going in tomorrow morning and getting my truck outta the shop. At least I know it'll be good to go for awhile and hopefully I won't have to be spending any more money like this. It'll be interesting to crawl underneath and see what kinda oil pan they put in! I was expecting maybe a bill for about $400-500..not 742!! That pan better be gold plated!! LOL
I finally joined the Bigfoot Forums (BFF) bulletin board last night. I've been lurking the site for a couple of months now and finally decided to join last week and last night was my first posting on the message board. The BFF is a really cool message board, dedicated to the Bigfoot/Sasquatch. People post messages about sightings, research trips, stuff to buy, almost anything you can think of. It's a really neat community and I hope to contribute much more to it. I've never seen a Bigfoot in real life, but I do believe such a creature exists in our forests. Every time I go out in the woods with my ATV and I see how isolated the woods/swamps/bogs are, I realize how very easy it would be for a creature like Bigfoot to remain concealed. Maybe someday I'll have the priviledge to view such a creature, in the meantime, I'll continue to read and study other reports. I've been a huge Bigfoot fan since the early 70's when I saw my first Bigfoot film. Yes, back in the 70's, they had major motion pictures made about Bigfoot and they were shown in the theatres (no videos/dvds back then). I have a bunch of books on the subject and have read thousands of reports over the years. One of the scariest movies ever made on the subject of Bigfoot, is the Legend of Boggy Creek. If you ever get a chance, watch it..you'll be scared out of your wits and won't ever wander thru the woods quite the same again..LOL.
Well, almost bedtime. I'll post more later.
