Actress Aya Ueto, 24, attended an event in Ebina City on the weekend called “Sagamigawa Riverside Walk in Ebina,” held to celebrate the upcoming opening of the first completed sections of the Ken-O Expressway in Kanagawa Prefecture.

About 1.9 km of road connecting the Ebina Interchange of the Ken-O Expressway to the Ebina Junction of the Tomei Expressway will be opened to the public next Saturday, as will 1.1 km of road connecting the Ken-O expressway to the Atsugi Interchange of the Tomei Expressway.

Ueto fired the starting pistol and joined some 13,000 members of the public in walking down the new section of road, during which friends and families stopped to get photos beside toll gates and signs. She later said: “It felt good walking down the road, and the scenery is very nice - you can even see Mount Fuji. I often come to Ebina, so the opening of this section of the expressway is going to be convenient for me.”

The Ken-O Expressway starts in Yokohama in Kanagawa Prefecture, and passes through Hachioji City in western Tokyo, Kawagoe City in Saitama Prefecture, Tsukuba City in Ibaraki Prefecture and finishes in Kisarazu City in Chiba Prefecture. The approximately 300-km outer ring - of which nearly 100 km is already open to the public - is expected to alleviate congestion in and around Tokyo.
