Computer Science Program Receives ABET Accreditation
Thursday, September 14, 2006

The University of Evansville recently received word that its Computer Science program, a bachelor's degree program offered through UE's College of Engineering and Computer Science, has been accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET). This decision was made during the Computing Accreditation Commission summer meeting of ABET, following a visit to campus last fall.

"Accreditation is a message that a program meets the standards of the profession," said UE Dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science Philip Gerhart. "It is also important for those that need credits to transfer to other programs; for acceptance into graduate schools; as well as for professional registrations.

"But maybe most importantly, potential employers look for graduates who have come from programs that have been accredited," Gerhart added, "because they know they have learned the things they need in the profession."

The Computer Science Program is offered by the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at UE. Other ABET accredited programs in the College of Engineering and Computer Science include: civil engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering.
