April Fools’ Day

In the spirit of April Fool’s, resident pranksters and inevitably happy-go-lucky individuals named; Tegoshi, Masuda, YamaPi, Jin, Koki, Yuichi, Keiizatsu and Mizuki organized a party at Mizuki’s hillside villa in Okayama.

One of the events was a entering a vast labyrinth under the light of the moon and playing hide and seek inside. To make things interesting, a ‘punishment’ is waiting for the last two people to come out of the maze.

It was exactly 8am as a silver, heavily tinted coaster arrived at the heart of the villa and parked in front of the main mansion. In a few moments, the passengers started to alight from the vehicle, carrying their light luggage and stare in awe at the piece of French designed villa in their presence.

"Are we still in Japan or did that coaster fly us straight to some countryside in France?" Masuda was the first to react as they near the porch.

"Sugoi deshou?" Keii uttered in awe as she tugged unto Jin’s arm, who’s walking beside her.

"Yeah." Jin replied with a light smile as he watched Keii’s smile as she looked around.

"Why’d you sound like you’re not that amazed, ne Jin-Jin?" Yuki asked as she nudged Jin to the side.

"That’s because Jin and I have already been here years ago." YamaPi answered Yuki’s query as he put his arm over Jin’s shoulders.

"Don’t leave me out of the picture, YamaPi. I was with the both of you the whole time that you went here." Koki butted in the conversation.

"Yeah, the overprotective nii-chan." YamaPi muttered as he and Jin shared a laugh.

"Yeah right. Like you two are anything different, back then you two were on each other’s necks when we got separated with Miki in the labyrinth." Koki laughed at the two blushing men beside him.

"Whoa~ The four of you were already close back then, huh?" Tegoshi commented as he took some pictures of the group.

"Not just close, they almost look like siblings when I saw their pictures back then." Ayori stated with a laugh, seeing the reactions on the three’s faces.

"We were not!!" the three denied the other’s claim as they finally reached the porch.

"Hahah~ I want to see some of those pictures Ayori-chan." Koyama said with a laugh, removing his shades to wipe some of his tears of joy.

"Hah! I second that." Junno added with a laugh.

"Mou, you people are so loud." Sachiko muttered, easing silence within the group. "Remember that we’re in another person’s house, show some respect."

"C’mon Sachi, loosen up. We’re on our day-off. No need to be so uptight." Kame said as he massages Sachiko’s temples.

"I just don’t want to disturb the people working here." Sachiko defensively retorted as she crossed her arms.

"Well, here we are. Where’s Miki-kun?" Shige asked as they sat on the couch by the door way.

"It’s pretty unusual for her to run late out of schedule." Meiko commented she sat beside Shige on the couch.

"Maybe they’re still cleaning up inside." Yuichi said as he checked his wristwatch. "You know how Mizu-chan’s such a clean freak."

Yuichi’s statement urged a number of nods in the group. But not a moment longer, the main door slowly creaked open, revealing a familiar face in a formal black and white suit, welcoming the group with a bow.

"Kudo-san." Keii uttered as they nodded their heads at the one before them.

"Ohayou gozaimasu, guests of mademoiselle Illya. Please come in and make yourselves comfortable." Kudo greeted the group as he snapped his fingers, making the doors open to its full extent, revealing a wide staircase and a line of uniformed attendants, bowing in greeting.

"Ohayou gozaimasu." The house staff greeted them as they walked in.

"O-Ohayo gozaimasu." The group chorused with their reply as they made their way in.

"Impressive staff Kudo-san. Your leading skills haven’t changed a bit." YamaPi greeted Kudo with a hug. "It’s good to be back here."

"Likewise, young master Tomohisa." Kudo said in reply as he patted YamaPi on the back.

"Young master?? Tomohisa??" the group gave a hearty laugh when Koyama blatantly repeated what they just heard.

"No offense Kudo-san, but the young master title doesn’t suit YamaPi now." Jin stated with a laugh.

"Oh, you’re just jealous that Kudo-san doesn’t call you young master." Koki said, hitting Jin lightly on the back. "Poor you."

"Wait a second, Kudo-san. You’re also assigned here in this villa?" Keii asked as she approached him.

"Yes, I’m mademoiselle Illya’s caretaker, that’s my job. Wherever mademoiselle goes, madame expects me to be there." Kudo explained as he waved at some attendants to bring in some seats.

"What a strict rule in a rich person’s life." Shige commented as the others nodded in agreement.

"It’s not that great really. Kudo-san is just skilled in making his job sound great. Bottom line is he’s my personal best friend, nanny and PDA in one whole package." Mizuki ended her explanation with a short laugh as she and Ueda walk down the stairs.

"Ohayo mademoiselle Illya, young master Tatsuya." Kudo greeted the two as they reached the bottom of the stairs.

"Ohayo, Kudo-san." The two chorused as they nodded at him.

"I told you not to call me with ‘mademoiselle’, ne?" Mizuki instructed Kudo with a smile. "Anyway, is everyone present?"

"Ryo’s not able to come because he has a taping with KanJani." Sachiko said with a smile on her face as she answered Mizuki’s query.

"You don’t sound that bad about his absence, huh?" Kame said with a laugh as he pinched Sachiko’s cheek.

"Not at all." Sachiko replied with a light smirk as she faced Kame.

"Okay. First rule, strawberry moments are forbidden outside the privacy of your assigned rooms." Mizuki said, making the two blush at her statement.

"Second rule, ‘No bare feet on my floor.’ That’s all." Mizuki chirped as she took Ueda by the hand and joined the group.

"That’s all? It’s like the rules back home then." Keii muttered as she fixed her bag.

"That’s good then, no restrictions whatsoever." Tegoshi muttered as he put the camera back in the bag.

"Well then, shall we lead you to your rooms? Your things are already there." Ueda said as they started to climb up the stairs.

"Sure, I would love to see my room." Yuki rejoiced as they climbed up the stairs and proceeded to their assigned rooms.

In the next few hours, the group toured around the villa and made themselves at home as they familiarized with the surroundings and later on, planned their activities for the night.

Watching the pale orange sunset from the balcony overlooking the labyrinth, where right under her nose the others were getting ready for their game, Keii silently sat by the railings, staring at the beautiful scenery before her.

"Hey, Keii-chan, we’re about to start with hide and seek. What are you doing up here all alone?" Masuda walked in the balcony upon seeing Keii inside.

"I’m just enjoying the view from up here." Keii answered in a soft tone as she clenched her fist from the cold.

Noticing the softness in her voice, Masuda walked to her side and ask if something’s bothering his friend.

"Keii-chan, it’s unlike you to act like this, you look…worried." Masuda said worryingly as he looked at Keii who quickly shifted her gaze from the sun.

"I just feel like, something bad or…something wrong will happen tonight." Keii said as she looked at Masuda for a second and lowered her gaze onto the others who’re in front of the entrance of the maze.

Masuda instinctively followed her gaze and the ones that caught his eye was Jin who’s sitting on a chair as he clearly stares at Mizuki who is exchanging laughs with Sachiko and the other two women.

He quickly realizes the reason why Keii is acting concerned but before he got the chance to speak, Keii grabbed his hand, halting his speech.

"Let’s go Taka-kun." Keii said with her usual smile as she pulled him to the door.

Unable to speak, Masuda let Keii lead the way as he saw in her eyes how she really felt. This sight made him worry more as he notices a faint formation of tears in her eyes.

‘What will happen tonight?’ Masuda thought as they quickly ran downstairs and into the garden where the others were waiting.

"Keii-chan, where’ve you been?" Jin greeted Keii with a hug as the both of them arrived.

"Hahah~ Gomen, we got a little lost on the way here." Keii managed to give a short giggle as she stood beside Jin.

"Well, let’s start then." Tegoshi and Masuda chorused as they unveil a small chart of names.

"Everybody listen up, as we all know, our event tonight is hide and seek. This chart shows who will be the ones to hide and the ones who’re assigned to seek for each member." Yuichi started as he showed the group the chart.

"For example, our first pair is Junno and Yuki-chan." Koki said as he let Junno and Yuki stand. "In a pair, one is initially assigned to be the one who hides and the other, the one who seeks. In this case, Junno is the one who hides and Yuki-chan must find Junno in the labyrinth."

"Cool! But how do we know if we are catchers or the one who hides?" Ayori asked with a raise of his hand.

"We have two boxes here." YamaPi said as he showed the two boxes held by Keii and Mizuki.

"One of the boxes contains 18 colored balls, 9 are red representing the captors, and 9 are white representing the ones who’ll hide. Each of us will pick one to determine their roles." Keii explained as she picked out a red and white ball from the box.

"And this other box’s purpose is that whoever those 9 lucky ones who picked white are, their names will be written on a piece of paper and their names will picked by the ones who picked the red balls, to know which person is assigned to capture another."

Mizuki explained as she brought out pieces of paper and pens.

"So there’s a pairing system, one who hides has one assigned captor, so no one is allowed to capture another’s assigned person." Jin further explained as the others nodded at their explanation.

"Let’s start then!" Sachiko chirped happily as she stood from her seat. "This sounds like fun."

"It is fun, but there’s a catch." Masuda said with a raise of a finger.

"The last pair who’ll get to come out of the maze will have a punishment waiting for them." The eight people who organized the game chorused before letting out evil laughter causing shivers to their audience.

"I wonder what the punishment will be." Shige commented with a slight uneasiness in his voice.

"We have two sadists in the organizing team, we shouldn’t keep our guard down." Meiko said with a shiver as she hold onto Shige.

"I definitely won’t finish last." Kame muttered as he then stood from his seat.

"But wait, there are 18 balls, but we’re only 17 because Ryo isn’t here. What’ll happen to the extra role?" Yuki raised her question.

"Well, then one of us would take two roles then. That’s alright ne minna?" Mizuki suggested earning a resounding agreement with the others.

"You do it then." Koki said as he took the box with the balls. "You’ll get to pick to balls from the box."

"Eh? Me??!" Mizuki exclaimed as she took a step back.

"C’mon Miki, you suggested it, might as well do it yourself." Ueda said as he pushed Mizuki to Koki.

"Aww..fine." Mizuki grumbled as she put her hand in the hole of the box and picked two balls, one red and the other white.

"Great! You’ll hide while you seek!" Junno said with a laugh as he patted Mizuki on the shoulder.

"Oh what a pain." Mizuki grumbled in her seat as the box was passed around to the others, revealaing their roles in the game.

When everyone got to pick their role, their names are then arranged on the chart.

"Whaaa! I have to deal with two fast runners?? Macchan chasing after me while I chase after Keii-chi." Mizuki said as she rests her head on Keii’s shoulder. "Please don’t give me a hard time, Keii-chi."

"Don’t worry, I won’t." Keii said as she pats Mizuki’s head.

"Well then, will those who need to hide please step in the labyrinth and get lost as best as you can." Kame and Jin posed at the entrance of the maze.

"Be careful not to get lost on your way out." YamaPi said with a laugh as he shouted at the ones going inside.

"What kind of irony is this?" Meiko muttered before going in. "Junnosuke! You’d better hurry up and find me!"

"Hai! I’ll do my best!"

At that the captors waited to let the ones inside move deep in the labyrinth in search of a good hiding place. After five minutes, the captors went in a started with their game.

In a span of 15 minutes, not one of them found each other, as the labyrinth was pitch dark and very silent where the only source of light was from the light of the full moon above them.

Other than the sound of the running and splashing water from the fountain, nothing else can be heard as Mizuki decided to rest on the fountains ledge.

"Ahh! So tired!! I wonder where that pavilion is at?" Mizuki muttered softly to herself as she catches her breath after a 20 minute run around the labyrinth.

Not another second passed, sounds of running can be heard, making her stand up from her seat and run to the other side of the fountain to hide in wait for who’s going to run past her.

Seeing a faint movement beside the fountain, the one approaching silently crept to where Mizuki sat, catching her off guard.

"Boo!" the person startled Mizuki with a laugh, as the person covered Mizuki’s mouth as she attempted to scream.

"Keep quiet. Your captor is following me."

In a few seconds of keeping still with an unknown person hugging Mizuki close, Masuda run past the fountain. Waiting for a few more seconds to make sure that Masuda has left, Mizuki pulled the other’s hand away from her mouth as they stood from their crouched position.

"Thanks for warning me." Mizuki said as she turned to face her savior.

"No problem, I knew you would be hiding here."

Recognizing the voice, Mizuki’s eyes widen to see Jin staring back at her, with his eyes locked intently on hers.

"Jicchan. It’s you." Mizuki tried to laugh as she confirmed her realization, holding her other hand as it trembled for a second.

"I assume you’re looking for the pavilion. Come with me, I’ll take you there." Jin said as he took Mizuki’s hand and pulled her away from the fountain.

"Are you sure where we’re going?" Mizuki said in a whisper as she followed Jin’s lead.

"I know. I memorized the map earlier." Jin said in an assuring tone before they stopped running and faced the domed pavilion.

"Nice memory." Mizuki praised Jin as they approached the pavilion and parted the hanging vines which cover the entrance.

"This is such a good spot to hide in. The vines cover the whole thing making it impossible to notice." Mizuki added as she held on the center pillar inside.

"I know. That’s why…" Jin halted his speech as he stood in front of Mizuki.

Noticing Jin’s difficulty in speech, Mizuki looked at him straight and see his flushed face.

"What’s wrong Jicchan? Are you alright?" Mizuki asked as she raised her hand to feel his forehead.

But then, Jin held her hand with both of his and stared at her.

"Mizuki, I want to talk to you about something."

"Itte!" Keii winced in pain as she placed her hand against her chest as she felt a sharp pain across her chest.

Hearing Keii’s voice, Masuda rushed to where she was and found her frozen in one spot. Masuda quickly ran to her and held Keii by the shoulders.

"Are you alright? Keii-chan, answer me." Masuda asked as he shook Keii gently.

"It’s starting…"

In a distance, Ueda, Yuichi and Sachiko chanced upon each other and heard Masuda’s cry, making them run to the scene.

"What happened, Masuda?" Sachiko rushed to the two as she sees Keii almost in a trance-like state.

"It’s starting…my bad feeling. Something bad is happening."

"Will you please listen to me?" Jin again asked as he took a step towards Mizuki who then leaned against the center pillar.

"You’re scaring me Jicchan." Mizuki said as she looked away. "Just go and look for Kei-chan."

"Mizuki, please listen to me. I’ve been waiting so long to have a moment like this with you Mizuki, to be alone with you." Jin then held Mizuki’s shoulder, not letting go of one of her hands.

"Jin…What? What do you want to-"

Not letting Mizuki finish her speech, Jin quickly tipped his head dove in for a kiss, catching Mizuki off guard. Wanting Jin to stop, Mizuki tried to look away but Jin already pinned her against the pillar and held her head, completely immobilizing Mizuki.

A few more seconds passed but Mizuki can’t hold it in any longer. In a few moments, hot tears run down her cheeks, distracting Jin, making him pull away from Mizuki. Catching their breath, Mizuki cannot help but let her tears flow as she looked at Jin straight in the eye, asking him why he did it.

"Mizuki…I’m sorry but I still love you." Jin said as he held Mizuki’s face and wiped her tears. "Please don’t cry. Don’t you feel the same?"

A moment of silence then passed as Mizuki let herself recover from her tears. After a few shakes of her head, she finally met with Jin’s eyes, filled with pain and longing.

"How can you be so insensitive??! Not only are you cheating on your lover, you’re also cheating yourself!! Don’t you understand?! You’re just lying to yourself, saying you’ve grown and matured when you went to L.A. But let me tell you, no matter how much you say that you’ve ‘matured’, you’re still the same because you never learned how to let go!!" Mizuki voiced as she wiped the tears that newly fell on her cheeks as she stood straight and looked at Jin straight in the eye.

"You know that I can’t hate you but please don’t lead me down the same path as you do because we’re not the same anymore. I may not have ‘matured’, as you say, but I’ve changed, and so must you. Please Jin, please."

At that final statement, seeing Jin’s shocked expression, Mizuki decided to leave the pavilion. As she parted the vines and stepped outside, she saw Ueda and the others standing a few feet away from the entrance of the pavilion.

"Tatsuya…" Mizuki uttered as her eyes became heavy as tears started to form again. But Mizuki walked to the pained looking Keii and bowed before her.

"Keii-chi, I’m so sorry. I’m very sorry."

Wanting to speak Keii just nodded her head and patted Mizuki’s shoulder, in acknowledgment of Mizuki’s apology.

"Tatsuya…" Mizuki turned back to Ueda as she removed the ring on her left ring finger. "Give this back to me, when I’m ready. You know when that will be."

"I’ll wait for you Mizuki." Ueda said with a warm smile on his lips as he hugged Mizuki tight and kissed her on the forehead.

"Mi-chi, let’s go and win this." Keii said as she offered her hand to Mizuki who relentlessly took her hand.

"Let’s go."

At that Jin went outside the pavilion after witnessing everything, the results of what he has done.

"So this is what true love feels like, huh?" Jin looked up to the full moon and gazed at it for a while. "True love hurts a thousand times more when you realize it and it’s too late to come true because you let it go."

"Good thing. You now know how it feels like." Yuichi said as he stood beside Jin. "Are you ready to compose a new song?" Yuichi said jokingly as he patted Jin’s shoulder. "Let it out Jin, let it out." Yuichi said as he gently patted Jin head, urging Jin’s tears to fall.
