Summary: On the day that Daiki had confessed his love to him Chinen thought that, that would be the day he would regret most but right now at this present time when he was sure of his feelings towards Daiki it became a memory that he would never want to forget.
Pitter patter pitter patter….
With every step it he took it seems like the rain was getting harder and harsher but he didn’t care about that the only that he cares most right now it to see him, it didn’t matter that he could catch a cold, it didn’t matter that he had been pushed and had tripped a couple of times, it didn’t matter how painful it was to have the cold droplets of rain hit his scrapped elbow he needed to see him, to tell him how he feels and to apologize on what had happened between them. He ran aimlessly trying to figure out where exactly Daiki could’ve gone. He left a few minutes after Daiki left so he shouldn’t have gone far.
It irritated him a lot because everytime he decides to gather up all his courage to go talk to Daiki someone would prevent him from doing so previously it had been Yamada asking him to go with him to the toilet and before that it was their manager pulling him away to discuss with him about NYC’s performance and just a few minutes ago Takaki came and dragged Daiki away from the dressing room. According to the other members Takaki and Daiki were heading out to buy some snacks.
As he ran through the busy streets the events of the day he regretted most played in his mind.
“Chii…do you…do you love me?”
“……I…I…” being questioned this question so suddenly definitely shocked him. As much as he wanted to answer him, to assure him of his feelings towards the other one but the words couldn’t escaped from his throat. It feels as if he had lost his voice. In the end he could only looked at the other one with a sad face.
“I understand. I guess this is goodbye right? Thank you for letting me love you…” and with that Daiki was gone.
That night as Chinen was about to go to sleep he realized something important. His reply to the other when he told him he loves him was always ‘I like you’ nothing more nothing less. It was a sleepless night for Chinen as he stayed up wondering if he ever liked Daiki more than a friend.
On the day that Daiki had confessed his love to him he just accepted it without giving it a second thought. He had never thought of liking Daiki more than a friend but on that day the word ‘yes’ just slipped out of his mouth unknowingly. had at first thought that, that would be the day he would regret most but right now at this present time when he was sure of his feelings towards Daiki it became a memory that he would never want to forget.
They never spoke to each other much after that day. There are times when they will greet each other in the morning but it was only a mere ‘good morning’.
Crossing the road when the traffic light is red Chinen stopped when he reached the other side of the road. He turned and glance back at the road.
“No matter what I will always come to protect you”
Remembering the words that Daiki had once said to him Chinen was debating whether to try his luck. “Dai chan… if this is the only way I can get you to come then I’ll take this risk” he mumbled. Taking a few steps forward he is now standing in the middle of the road. When the traffic light turned green indicating that it was time for the cars to move there were no cars… yet. Luckily.
But, it didn’t take long for a bus to come driving towards his direction. As the bus came closer and closer Chinen was starting to worry. Whether he was about to die or he won’t be able to see Daiki one last time and tell him his feelings he couldn’t decide.
“CHII!!!” he hears someone shouting his name. He knew that voice. Could it be….
He thoughts was interrupted when he felt someone pull him back to the side line and both of them landed on the floor with a loud ‘thud’. One of them panting heavily.
“What are you trying to do kill yourself?!” shouted the one who had saved him earlier.
“I just wanted-” looking up disappointment could be seen clearly on Chinen’s face it wasn’t Daiki at all instead it was Takaki who had saved him. “You are not him…” Chinen mumbled looking back down on the floor. He could feel warm tears running down his cold wet cheeks.
“What are you mumbling about. Is it not enough that I had saved your life!” Takaki shouted again, clearly mad about his effort not being appreciated.
“You don’t get it! It shouldn’t have been you! It was suppose to be him… He said it himself that he would always protect me! I needed to see him! I wanted to tell him how I feel but it seems like something would always come up and prevent me from doing so. This is the only way I can get him to come to me instead but I guess I was wrong…”
“Him who?” Takaki’s voice seems to have soften after seeing Chinen cry in sadness and frustrastion.
“Daiki… I wanted to confess to him. It was okay if he didn’t love me back. I just needed to tell him that I love him and that I was sorry for everything that happened between us in the past. I am fine with just having him know that I really do love him. I might have been a little unsure in the past but I’ve got it all figured out now. The reason while my heart beats fast whenever he is around, why my heart skips a beat whenever he smiles at me and hold my hand, why my body feels so warm whenever he was kind to me this is all because I loved him.”
Light footsteps can be heard coming towards them and soon it seemed like the rain had stopped. Looking up Takaki and Chinen saw Daiki holding an umbrella over them.
“Daiki!” both of them exclaimed at the same time.
“What are you two doing lying down on the cold hard floor looking like idiots. People are staring you know and Chinen what were you tring to do kill yourself!? What if I hadn’t notice you and hadn’t ask Takaki to go after you?”
“I am sorry I just….”
“Forget it. Let’s just forget about this and go back before Yabu kills us. There is only one umbrella though so all of us have to share”
Pulling both Chinen and Takaki up they headed back with that one umbrella which didn’t really help shelter them from the rain. Daiki and Takaki were standing on the side exposing their shoulder to the rain while Chinen is in the middle. No one said a word or complained but after awhile Chinen started sobbing and crying. Daiki handed Takaki the umbrella for him to hold.
“Why are you crying?” Daiki asked softly as he wiped away the tears on Chinen’s face.
“Dai chan…. I- I …”
“Shh I heard what you said ealier on. I forgive and I still love you. Just don’t ever do something like that ever again.” giving a soft peck on Chinen’s. Chinen smiled as he felt a familiar hand holding onto his and as they walk back Chinen knew that everything was back to how they were before.
