“I wish I could walk with you in that autumn path again.”
“I wish.”
“What do you mean?”
“If we had one more chance to change what happened then I would still be with you.”
“Is it impossible now?”
“It is.”
Saga’s bitter words hurt Tora like a sword struck right through his heart. The other line hung up and there was a cold breeze that passed by Tora’s red, teary face. He looked outside his 6-foot window and wished he would just vanish so that Saga could have his peace and quiet from then on. Making someone happy is such a hard thing to do, especially when you did something wrong to that person.
That same purple sky that Tora and Saga used to love and used to look at together in amazement; it felt like it was taking in the colour red by the time. Tora cried out loud for another chance but it was too late…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next day, gray clouds started to paint the sky. The sun was nowhere to be found. Tora’s sight dimmed and looked at the road in front of him. Driving, he reminded himself to act naturally in front of the others.
“Good morning,” He greeted with a smile when he closed the door behind him.
Some of them were too busy to greet back so he sat down and let out a sigh. One of them, to his surprise, returned a smile. Saga sat beside him and showed him a piece of paper. It was blank.
“I hang up yesterday, I’m sorry.”
“That’s fine.” Tora got the paper from Saga’s hands. He took a quick glance at Saga’s violet eyes on him and immediately avoided it. “What am I going to do with this?”
“Make me an airplane.”
“An airplane..?”
Saga chuckled and nodded. Why does he have to act like nothing happened?
“I don’t know how to make one.”
“Just make me one.”
“Why?”
Saga’s smile disappeared and he stood up to approach the others. Tora didn’t get what he was trying to say and he folded the paper in four, and slipped it inside his pocket. He saw Saga roll his eyes.
“Saga,” He called out in a whisper.
“...Tora is calling you.” Nao patted Saga’s shoulder and the bassist looked at Tora as he wished. Tora scratched his head and repeated, “Saga.”
Saga stood up again and sat beside the guitarist. “Why?”
“We need to talk, properly.” Tora’s eyes dimmed. Saga looked around and wiped the tears that were forming in the corner of the latter's eyes. Shou saw it and told Nao and Hiroto.
“Crybaby…”
“I’m like this because of you.”
Saga paused. “Let’s talk then.”
“Don’t let it end like this.” Tora was straight with his words, not minding if the others were already listening.
“We need to move on, Tora… Why can’t you understand? We’re not getting anywhere with this. We’re better off as…friends.”
“That’s not true!”
“It is true,”
“No!”
“Tora!”
“Saga!”
“SHUT UP! I hate you!”
Saga grabbed his bass with one hand and walked rudely out of the room.
“I HATE YOU TOO!!!!” Tora was screaming and creating a tantrum that he threw his guitar out of the door. It crashed to the wall.
Shou stood up, startled, and approached Tora to somehow calm him down by fanning him. Hiroto did the same and Nao ran after Saga. He felt bad when he stepped on Tora’s guitar.
“Tell me, Shou, I didn’t do anything.” Tora sobbed helplessly in buried his face on the vocalist’s chest. Shou hugged him and dropped the fan he was holding, and patted his friend’s back. He couldn’t believe this. Tora and Saga was not like this before. Usually, they would come in their room together and like, being sweet to each other but this was way different. Shou bit his lip and eventually cried with Tora, his feelings for his best friends overflowing through easy tears.
What hurt Shou most was he couldn’t do anything to finish his friend’s suffering, and just move on with the unfinished things that are yet to be done. They’re soon to go on tour, for goodness sakes.
Hiroto waved the fan in his hand harder.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Another grim-painted day. Shou held Hiroto’s thin hands and smiled at him, and his lover smiled back. “Everything’s going to work out somehow,” The smaller of the two whispered. He moved his fingers a bit and tickled Shou’s palm. “You think?” The latter answered.
“I just know it. Don’t doubt the master Hiroto, let’s just…hope, ne?”
Shou smirked. “I believe you now.”
“Morning,” A broken voice behind them greeted in pain. Hiroto and Shou turn around to see Tora covering his eyes with one hand, and Shou immediately released his hand from Hiroto’s.
“Ohayo~” Shou tugged Hiroto’s arm.
“Ohayo gozaimasu, Tora-san.” Hiroto greeted.
After a few seconds, Tora put down his hand and looked at the two, and walked into the room without another word.
“I think you’re wrong, Hiroto.”
“Shit.” Hiroto rolled his eyes and ran after Tora. “Tora-san, ohayo!”
“Eh?” Nao stepped beside Shou and closed the door in front of him. “Good morning, Shou-kun.”
“Nao-san,” Shou was quick to put on a smile even if his boyfriend had left him alone. “Good morning.”
the drummer put down his bag in a nearby sofa and gestured Shou to join him to sit, and he gladly followed.
“They broke up.” Nao started. “Tora and Saga broke up the day before yesterday.”
Shou’s smile faded. “It’s obvious but, how and why? Did you talk to Saga-kun?”
“Yes, yesterday when he walked out on Tora...”
Shou nodded in anticipation.
“What happened was…”
FLASHBACK
“Ahh, sugoi! Look at the moon, Tora!” Saga cuddled Tora’s arm and kissed his lover's left cheek, in attempt to soften the hard part of Tora’s heart.
“It’s silver,”
“Gin no tsuki.”
Tora chuckled. “Kuroi hoshi.”
“I made you smile,” Saga wished that he could give the moon to Tora at that moment. “It’s prettier than anything in this world.”
Tora paused. “That’s so sweet.”
“See, I’m not lonely like Shou and the others say. I’m happy because of you.”
The other couldn’t help but blush and shuffle his feet, wiggling his toes in embarrassment.
“I’m sorry for everything that I’ve done wrong and thank you for being with me until now even if I’m…a bad person. Up until now, I wonder how you tolerate me…and, if I could give you the moon or give you wings, I’d do it.”
Tora faced Saga and saw the same pair of eyes that he knows and love that he wants to see the very moment he wakes up every morning. He placed a soft kiss on Saga’s lips and pulled back after a few moments. “I already had wings since I met you. I don’t need the moon, because I have you.”
“Aw, Tora… I love you.”
“I love you too, Saga.”
“But still, I’d give you wings. Additional,”
Tora laughed a bit to himself.
“You looked so handsome in Ruri No Ame, by the way.”
“You already told me that.”
Saga slapped his forehead. “I did? Oh,”
“Haha. You’re lucky; you had the umbrella and had more camera shots. You deserved it, you’re prettier.”
The latter sniggered. “Really? I want you.”
“Eh?! Right now?”
“Well, if you want me, too.” Saga put on a sultry smile.
“No, not now… I’m not yet ready,”
“Oh, okay. I’m just telling,” The disappointment in Saga’s voice was heard.
“I’m sorry, I’m not in the mood since we’re talking and I like it this way for now.”
“Mm, I understand. I’m always the slut,”
“No, you’re not a slut.”
“Why do you like me?”
“Huh??”
“Why do you like me for? Is it something that I did or doing, or my face, what?”
Tora smiled. “All of the above, I love everything about you.”
“What if…” Saga discontinued.
“What if..?”
“Um, what will make you break up with me…in case?”
“Saga…why are you-“
“Come on, tell. What are the things that would make you break up with me?”
Tora’s heart skipped a beat. “Do you like me even if I smoke?”
“I smoke,” Saga answered sarcastically. “I don’t care. We’ll die of lung cancer together.”
“Oh, that’s not a good thing to say, Saga… Even if we dwell well in death, um, well I mean by that is…death is not a joke…”
“I’m just joking,”
“That’s why I said that it isn’t a good joke.”
“Didn’t you see a little smile in the corner of my mouth?” Saga moved closer and pointed to the said body part, where he smiled, forced.
“That’s not what I meant.”
“That’s not what I meant, also. You’re taking everything too seriously, Tora.”
“No. I’m just correcting you and telling what’s on my mind.” And what I think is…right,”
“So joking isn’t right?”
Tora sighed desperately. “Saga...”
“It’s OKAY to joke around, Tora. Do you know how many attempts I do just to make you smile? When I can’t seem to smile myself, I do it for you.”
“I understand but, but… Saga…”
“Do you even know how to make a paper airplane yet?”
“Huh, what?”
“I told you to learn and make me one!”
Tora’s temper reached to its heights. “Since when did you tell me to make origami for you?”
“Last week, I think. Why can’t you learn to make me one?”
“You expect me to learn something that I don’t want to do?”
“That… Then don’t,” Saga bowed his head and sighed. Tora didn’t know how important it is for Saga to make him a paper plane. Well, Saga didn’t tell him anyway. “Just tell me that you don't want to make me one and I'll stop asking you!"
“That’s so childish, Saga…”
“Uwo,” Saga was surprised. “You talk back at me now.”
“’Cause you talk back at me, too.” Tora simply said.
“Who’s childish now?”
“You’re the girl here, you’re more childish.”
“HAH? I’m the girl?!”
Before Tora could answer Saga again, his cell phone rang and immediately, Saga’s hand grabbed the device from his hand and answered the call.
“Saga, hey!”
“…Moshi-moshi?”
A pause. “Oh, a woman calling Tora! What do you need from him? …Cool, wow, cool. A night out tomorrow? For what?”
Tora’s eyes widen.
“I’ll tell him for sure… Oh, this is Saga… Hm? Oh, so you two are only the ones going to that bar downtown?”
Another pause, this time it was longer. Saga bit his lip and a tear from his right eye dropped to his lap. He was almost crushing the device in his hand.
After a few moments, Saga said goodbye and placed the device on top of the space in between the two of them. He remained silent and silently wept in front of his lover. There was no given reason; Tora didn’t know what the woman told Saga and that bothered him- he knew he didn’t do anything wrong. But he had to act now- Saga is crying.
“Um… What did the caller tell you? Was it…for me?”
It took almost a minute to make Saga reply. “It was for you. Well… For you.”
“What do you mean?”
“You’re cheating on me?” Saga faced Tora with tears still visible in his eyes, pleading for an answer. “Tora?”
“I’m not cheating on you. Who was that?”
“It doesn’t matter who, I want to know why?” Saga’s breathing labored. “Why does she seem so excited to see you at a place like that? Do you have sex with her?”
“No! No, Saga… There must be a misunderstanding… Who… No, I’m not cheating on you. What did she tell you? Who the hell was that?”
“She said to meet her in a bar downtown, the usual place, and, and…” Saga couldn’t contain the pain anymore. “Why..?”
“Saga…”
“So that’s why you’re not into me these past days… I’m not that good for you, is that the point for getting a girl?”
“Saga, I told you that I didn’t cheat on you. There must be a misunderstanding!”
“How could there be a misunderstanding when I heard what she said from my very ear? It’s very clear that you’re cheating on me and that’s…that’s…that hurts… You… You’re never satisfied until you get what you don’t have and that’s a girl and… How could you do this to me..?”
“That’s not true, I love you,”
“Forget it… Y-you forget everything, okay..?”
“…F-forget about what?” Tora’s eyes widen when Saga was already standing up, looking ready to leave.
“Everything about us. This is what you want, nee..? Just…make that woman happier, Tora. That’s it…and I wish you told me earlier what you really wanted. I looked like a fool…”
Tora’s eyes blurred with tears when his sight was glued to Saga’s retreating back in front of him.
He couldn’t scream out loud that Saga was wrong; there was no more strength in his being to empower him to even speak.
From that day on, the sky was painted dark-purple.
