Completely disregard this post if you're not a dork

For the other three-fourths of you:

So I'm getting a new laptop for my birthday, and I've been looking for forever at whether to get a Toshiba, HP, Dell, or some other PC. It's been really tough to balance price, size, looks, and muscle. I'm looking for one that meets the following criteria:

- $1800 at most
- 12"-15" screen
- Pentium M, 1.5+GHz
- at least 512MB RAM
- less than 6 pounds
- 40+ GB hard drive
- Bright, crisp display (SXGA+ or whatever)
- Built in wireless 802.11b/g

It doesn't need to be all that powerful, and the lighter, the better (but I'm leaning towards the 14"-15" screen size). I'm mostly gonna be toting this around work and campus.

BUT!

I told my coworker today about what I was doing, and he said I should look at getting a Powerbook. That way, I could run an emulated copy of WinXP Pro whenever I needed to do any Windows-specific junk, and that way I could enjoy the best of both worlds. Granted, it wouldn't be just like having a copy of WinXP (it'd be a good bit slower), but I'm seriously considering it. I can get a 15" Powerbook that fits all of my critera for $1799, or I can get an 14" iBook that fits the bill for just over $1500.

Here are my concerns about the Mac idea:

1. When I want to use WinXP, I'll have to suffer the performance degradation due to the emulation
2. I'll have to worry about and pay for new software
3. I'd be conforming to the dark side

So what do you guys suggest? I'm at a deadlock and need some helpage.

Mac heads = sway me! PC mafia = show me the light!
