Get this: it's a snow day today, randomly: a snow day beginning at noon.
I had heard that it was supposed to snow today but did not realize the predicted severity of the storm until I checked the UMass webpage this morning...and everything (including the last class I was supposed to teach) is canceled. Then I checked the weather online and the chance of precipitation is 100%. How is that possible? Such certainty!
But, I'm not complaining. I had baked brownies for my class (+ gotten a few other assorted treats) for their end-of-semester party, but I think I'll distribute these baked goods among my pals. And now I'll have plenty of time to read (Lydia Davis), write Xmas cards, maybe even dig up an old knitting project that I'd forgotten about? And see if there are any recap episodes of The Hills on later today? Oh, god: it's 10:32 and I am still in my pajamas.

So, yes: the semester is effectively over. Final conferences Monday and Tuesday & the tabulation of grades, but that's it. Eric and I are driving back to ye olde Midwest on the 20th; hopefully, the highways will not be icy traps of doom. I'm looking forward to break, to hanging out with my mom and sister, to the change of scenery.
Bibnall mentioned that I used to write about really good salads, and it's true. Lately I have not encountered very many interesting salads (meaning I haven't made a lot), but I have been baking quickbreads from mixes, and have found two winners. Trader Joe's Pumpkin Bread and TJ's Gingerbread are both excellent and possibly the easiest thing ever to "bake," because there's not a lot of baking involved. But give me a break: it was finals.
Fear not, Bibnall: my focus will soon return to salads, or at least to stir-fry.
