Hey,

You know how when people change, you feel like everything around you has been altered too?  I get that sometimes.  The change renders me stupid, I think.  Because suddenly everything is off kilter and everyone is a stranger.

When people close to you change, suddenly it's like you're both strangers.  It's not an issue of difference, but more of the unfamiliarity.  You miss the beat, miss the step.  Everything you've worked on, all the time you've spent getting to know the person--establishing ways to approach them, memorizing their habits and nuances, familiarizing yourself with the way they talk, act, think, behave--is irrelevant.  It's amazing how even the slightest change in cirumstance could affect so much in so little time.

I find it genuinely dumbfounding.
