Conferences and such

I'm feeling teacher-y again! Last night we had student-led conferences (aka parent-teacher conferences with the student there, giving input and showing work). They went very well. We had "flowing fellowship" in the cafeteria before hand, and I met some of the other teachers. Then 3 1/2 hours of conferences. I was ready to leave and Laura said, "You do know where we're going, right?" Of course, I was clueless. She said, "Oh, follow me then." I said, "I have absolutely no cash on me, is that going to be a problem?" She said, "Nope. Not as long as you have ID saying you're 21."

Two and a half hours later, I leave the bar! My team went out, minus a couple people. EE for socialization. Let me tell you, they are hilarious! I was really nervous about going out and drinking with the people who are grading me, but it was fine. Laura (my cooperating teacher) bought the first round, and I had 3/4 LEFT when Brent ordered the next. I said, "Oh, I don't need another one." "Yes you do" was the response. That was all I had though. I had to be responsible and drive home. ENM for me not staying the entire night. (Oh, and sisters, I removed my lavalier before going!) :) :)

Definitely had some interesting conversations while we were there. I won't look at cereal in the same way for quite some time. If you want the story, let me know. John the science teacher is all about setting me up with his UD student teacher. I'm not so keen on that idea....it'd be so weird, I think. Especially if for some strange reason we dated and broke up. I'd still have to see him 5 days a week, have some planning periods together, etc etc. It has the potential to be really awkward. And what if our students found out? All of my students have him (but not vice versa). So based on the circumstances, and not him as a person, I have to say I don't think so. Am I making too big of a deal about this?

This morning we had more conferences. EE for me getting Starbucks for the team. Lunch at Bagel Cafe. Inservice in the afternoon. EE for me going. It was kinda boring though. Some parts were helpful but a lot of it was time that could have been better spent.

P.S. - EE is expectation exceeded; ENM is expectation not met; they're UD's way of evaluating preservice teachers in the field. Lately everytime I do something, Laura says EE. The other morning I had starbucks and didn't bring her any so it was ENM. So I find some other silly thing to do and say EE. Yeah, we need to get out more!
