I went cycling today around Yorba Linda for the first time in quite a while. I started out by going around and up Vista Montana, then down this cool spiral path leading to the green belt path that runs along Bernardo Yorba Middle Schoo, at the intersection of Yorba Linda Blvd and Rio Del Oro. I took Rio Del Oro up to the playground, then turned around and went down the old green belt I used to traverse in my younger days. At the end I turned the corner and rode up my old street, then went back down the green belt in the opposite direction. Then I went back down Rio Del Oro, saw Andrew Hubbard driving, and got back on the green belt path towards Bernardo Yorba. Rode that all the way down, carried my bike up the stairs to the Bernardo track to see if I could ride around there.. only to find a huge soccer tournament going on, so I turned around and continued on the path until I reached Fairmont Blvd. I turned around and went all the way back on the path and turned right on Yorba Linda Blvd, riding past the Vons shopping center. I crossed the street and went to see if Ryan Cobb was home because he owes me money, but to no avail. Continued down YL Blvd and turned up San Antonio, across from the fire/police departments. It was an uphill battle. About halfway or a third up there was a small haven with a park and a drinking fountain. By now I was getting tired. The drinking fountain had hot water, but it was water nonetheless. I almost decided to just turn around and coast back down to YL Blvd... screw it. I went the rest of the way up until finally I reached the start/end of Fairmont Blvd. At times I just walked with my bike. At last I was at the apex and I coasted all the way down Fairmont until Village Center. Then I kept going up Fairmont, another steep hill, until I reached the top and I coasted down all the way to the Chevron station. Following this I made a little side stop at the old Fairmont Elementary School and rode around like old times. Tested out the various drinking fountains. Ran into an old teacher (not one of mine) who remembered me. Then I coasted down Fairmont, turned up Paseo de las Palomas, rode around the lake, up my street, and finally home. I should do this every day.
