kendle cooks food

Apr 10, 2010 17:19

I got invited to some kind of potluck at the Rabbit Hole by Linden, a coworker. I think it's supposed to be on Monday, but I made it today because I had some free time.

I pretty much made up the recipe as I was going - I was going for something like Kimchi Jjigae but I was missing some important ingredients and the kimchi is inferior stuff I bought from a local Japanese market. So it's like kimchi soup but with magical Kendle-esque touches.

ok so here we go

a mere FRACTION of the spices and stuff that went into this thing, excluding the Mae Ploy, which I didn't end up using.
This was all stuff that was just chilling in my house.

heres some cabbage and some oldish onion i found in the back of the fridge
the rest of the cabbage is in the sink because I made the mistake of washing it and then pulling off the leaves
the  water was tucked in all of the cabbage folds and went all over the floor, so i did the rest of that mission in the sink

sink cabbage

i chopped that stuff all up really haphazardly and threw it in this bowl

i found some celery too so i stuck that in there DONT GIVE A FUX

added some spices and stuff that oh yeah looks delicious it smelled really wholesome

added some kimchi and fish sauce and the previously pleasant smell became rank and rotting
fermented foods are the best

and then i bunged it in the frying pan for like 3 minutes with the hot chili oil
on a side note that hot chili oil is dangerous, i've tried cooking with it before and it's not the good kind of spicy
it's the "i can't breathe" kind of spicy
not sure why i used it here OH WELL!
the smell did not improve here

i started transferring the veggies to this pot full of boiling water and little leaves of umeboshi stuff
a very scant stock

there's all of the veggies in the pot
around this point i realized i had failed to put it the packet of miso that would have given me a real stock
so i just threw it in there now along with the rest of my kimchi

i stirred it for a bit and was unsure of how to continue
i suppose that's when you know it's DONE
then my camera died but that's ok because i was finished
it started smelling awesome here and i siphoned it into a container
i'll probably make some stock and noodles so it can feed more people

yeahhh!! success

and i went to the tax man and i am getting a fat refund check good stuff
also getting married and moving to canada in july SMELL YOU LATER AMERICA
