A recap

So the holidays are over. It's a new year and I'm sat at my computer killing time before work. So basically not a whole lot has changed.

The holidays are always stressful and anxiety provoking for me, so I tend to just withdraw and hermit myself away from about mid-October until mid-January. This year has been no exception. But, as a new year is wont to do, I am finding myself reviewing my previous year and seeing where things are taking me. Taking stock, if you will.

I have a decent job, even if I don't like it. In a time and region where a steady paycheck is far from guaranteed, I'm thankful for that. I have a loving girlfriend and things are going well. My family and I seem to be going well, though it can be hard to tell since we never talk about anything meaningful. I will be seeing them next week. (note: Gotta arrange stuff with Jess and Hotsauce). My plans for the future are hazy, but coalescing. I have an idea of a direction, if not direction itself. I've picked up new hobbies and possibly rekindled interest in old ones. I've made some self-discoveries that I think are pretty important, and I've pinned down parts of my personality that definitely need improvement.

So all in all, I think I'm doing alright.

Christmas and New Years were pretty dull for me. Girlfriend was out of town for both so I just sat at home and hermitted. The family sent me and her lots of stuff. I got spoiled a bit. The family got me a new leatherman, camelbak, a couple magic DVDs, some decks of cards, a couple books, a Porper clip, a bracelet with my initials engraved on it. The girlfriend got me stuff in NYC. David Blaine's 'Fearless' (Signed), a deck of Split Spades Lions (David Blaine's custom cards, signed), a couple other decks of cards and something else she forgot to give me yesterday, so I don't know what that is.

Though they don't realize it, the fact that my family actually got gifts that seem like they put thought into them for the girlfriend is a gift in itself. My family has, in the past, always kept out of my relationships. They don't actively disapprove of anyone I've dated, but if they don't like the person they just keep their distance and don't say anything until it all blows up. This is the first time I've been dating someone that my family has spoiled (more than me, I might add ;) ). It feels nice to have them make that gesture.

That's enough time wasted on LJ. Time to shower and gather things for work.

new year
