It's really a bittersweet feeling at the beginning seeing Lily full of hope that she'll be buying school supplies with James for there child someday when we all know that day never came for them. I love that you remember to put in little details like what the apothecary smelled like. It's the small details that create easily imaginable atmospheres for the reader to visualize. When Lily spins the ring around it made me wonder if she'd done it to make the ring less noticible hoping Severus wouldn't see it or if she had the intention of it looking like a wedding band so he wouldn't have a chance to gain false hope that there was still a chance. Oh, Severus, such a tragic man. One wonders what he'd have been like if his love for Lily had been returned, if he'd learned to tell her how he'd really felt, if he'd never fell into league with the Death Eaters. I love how you had him leaving the bottle of hellebore and the mystery of did he leave it because he could deny Lily nothing or that he simply couldn't afford it, either way it is just heartbreaking. Really well written, lovely but sad, drabble. *hugs*
