Title: 50 Imaginings
Prompt: Table Alpha
Challenge: 1sentence
Fandom: Jennifer Saunders/Dawn French, RPF
Requested by: kitnkabootle
Rating: G - R
Word Count: 1351
Disclaimer: Not mine. Wish they were. Please don't sue.
Author's Note: I started this ages ago and finally decided it was time to finish it in honor of kitnkabootle’s birthday. I’m still a bit squeamish about RPF, so do not be surprised if this is the last I write! Some of these are based on fact and some I just plain made up. I’ll let you decide which are fact and which are fiction…enjoy!

-

#01 - Comfort
Jennifer felt better having Dawn with her during her first session of chemotherapy, taking great comfort in all of the terrible jokes she was being told for the sake of a laugh.

#02 - Kiss
The first kiss they shared (behind a tattered purple curtain after receiving their first standing ovation) was spontaneous and friendly; the second and third were something else entirely.

#03 - Soft
After the chemotherapy begins, Dawn only touches Jennifer softly; Jen wishes that Dawn would simply give her another of her bone-crunching bear hugs.

#04 - Pain
They’ve been through so much over the years and have known such pain that will never heal, but when they make each other laugh, the rest of it all just falls away.

#05 - Potatoes
Their lifetime of shared successes is certainly not small potatoes, and for that they are grateful.

#06 - Rain
It rained on the night of their last show together, but the dreary whore that Mother Nature was could not ruin their high spirits.

#07 - Chocolate
“Everyone needs a pick-me-up when they’re ill so I thought I’d bring you some chocolate,” Dawn says, “but they’ve somehow mysteriously disappeared so I’m giving you my book instead.”

#08 - Happiness
Jennifer believes that there is nothing more synonymous with happiness than laughter, so she’s thankful to have been happy for the majority of her adult life.

#09 - Telephone
“I know you’re at the market, but I’ve got a quick question,” Dawn said with a smirk into the receiver, pausing dramatically until Jen impatiently prompted her to continue, “are you gonna do the accent?”

#10 - Ears
There is a sweet spot behind Dawn’s ear that only Jen knows about.

#11 - Name
“So this new group we’re starting for up-and-coming female comedians--would it be taking it a bit far to call it a cult?”

#12 - Sensual
For all of Jen’s lack of seriousness about sex and sensuality, Dawn finds her devastatingly sexy when she’s simply being herself.

#13 - Death
Death doesn’t scare Jennifer; losing her loved ones and losing her creativity does.

#14 - Sex
They are friends for twelve years before they sleep together for the first time and, after waking up together the next morning, they wonder why they didn’t start sooner.

#15 - Touch
They abort their first and only attempt at having sex with each other after only a few caresses because they mutually agree that they’ll never be able to touch each other again without calling up the guilt of their infidelities.

#16 - Weakness
Dawn’s weakness is funny women; she can’t get enough and so she surrounds herself with them.

#17 - Tears
Jen set Dawn’s book on the small table beside her sofa, taking a moment to catch her breath and collect her tears on the hem of her sleeve.

#18 - Speed
Neither Jennifer nor Dawn trust computers; any machine that processes information with such speed is more than likely from the devil and will inevitably take over the world.

#19 - Wind
Jen wonders if the wind has picked up before she sleepily remembers that she’s inside, in her bed, and Dawn is simply blowing her breath across her bare shoulder.

#20 - Freedom
Jen looks down at the blank sheet of paper she’s supposed to be writing her sketch on and, in a fit of whimsy, throws her pen across the room to give freedom to her procrastination.

#21 - Life
When Dawn gets the call from Jen that she’s in the clear, she has to close her eyes and catch her breath in relief that her best friend’s life will not be cut short.

#22 - Jealousy
After the separation begins, Dawn doesn’t think anything of it when Jen insists upon pre-screening any potential dating material until six months have passed without a single date.

#23 - Hands
Jen always feels a bit of a strange tingle whenever Dawn’s hands wander during a sketch.

#24 - Taste
Dawn’s got rubbish taste in men now that she and Lenny have broken up, though that may be because she hasn’t actually tried looking for a man to date.

#25 - Devotion
Some relationships fade as decades pass, but they know that theirs never will.

#26 - Forever
“We can do a comeback tour or two, you know,” Dawn says, “like Cher…except we’ll do it better and we’ll do it forever.”

#27 - Blood
“We’ll be blood brothers, except without the disgusting blood or the penises.”

#28 - Sickness
She never thought that sickness would find her, but she’s thankful that she caught it before it was too late.

#29 - Melody
Dawn drums a pencil and a pretzel stick against the desk, creating a tune that’s much more fascinating than boring old work.

#30 - Star
“What if we’re meant to be crazy comedy stars and not drama teachers?”

#31 - Home
‘French and Saunders’ feels like home.

#32 - Confusion
“I still can’t figure out why you let some other woman do your audiobook when I can do a better you than you can,” Jennifer says with an offended huff.

#33 - Fear
Jennifer appreciates that Dawn has made the effort to assuage her fears about chemo; when she opens the “get well” present and finds a tiger-striped leotard inside, she laughs until her sides hurt.

#34 - Lightning/Thunder
No, Jennifer is not afraid of thunderstorms, and no, she does not make Dawn hold her hand whenever they happen.

#35 - Bonds
A bit of residual jealousy always exists whenever Jen and Dawn work with other people, but they know that the bonds of their friendship are enough to alleviate their insecurities.

#36 - Market
There is no truth whatsoever in the rumor that Jennifer and Dawn stalk the grocer where Madonna is rumored to shop; their refrigerators are, however, always freshly stocked.

#37 - Technology
Though Dawn generally avoids technology, she doesn’t resist calling Jennifer to read to her the particularly funny bit she’s just written for her novel; when she hears Jen’s affirming laughter and silent approval, Dawn is glad to have picked up the phone.

#38 - Gift
Jennifer signs another check made out to the Central School of Speech and Drama; she donates every year, knowing that without this drama school, she’d never have met Dawn.

#39 - Smile
“Quit smiling at me like that…everyone’s gonna know you got in my knickers.”

#40 - Innocence
When Dawn smiled innocently at the BBC One interviewer, Jennifer immediately knew that her friend had something ridiculous planned; she couldn’t wait.

#41 - Completion
When their final act as a twosome draws to a close, Jennifer and Dawn simply look at each other and cannot believe that they’ve actually followed through with their decision.

#42 - Clouds
“I reckon that wonky cloud there looks a bit like Madonna, don’t you?”

#43 - Sky
Jen’s sweater, which is the color of the azure sunset streaking across London’s horizon, brings out the color of her eyes, and for a moment Dawn forgets how to breathe.

#44 - Heaven
Heaven is a lifelong friend.

#45 - Hell
After struggling through the dark hell of the aftermath of her father’s suicide, Dawn realized that she would be okay when she stopped seeing Jennifer as the snobby cynic in class and started seeing her as her friend.

#46 - Sun
“I’m not sure how to tell you this, Dawn, so I’m just going to say it: you’re supposed to wear sunglasses to go incognito, not glasses with a nose and moustache.”

#47 - Moon
When their careers take them in opposite directions, Dawn feels her loneliness ease when she looks at the sky and realizes she and Jennifer share the same moon regardless of where they are.

#48 - Waves
When walking in opposite directions, they have a contest to see who can wave the longest before they are out of sight; Dawn will never admit that Jen won that time she twisted her ankle.

#49 - Hair
Dawn experiences a fierce surge of pride when she sees the photo in the paper of Jen without the wig.

#50 - Supernova
The first time they make love, her orgasm hits her body like a star going supernova; her husband has never moved her to another universe and she suspects he never will.
