I have to admit that I thought you would do a letter for this drabble when I used the lyrics from PS I Love You as the request. That much I do know. However, I didn't know you'd do a letter from Robert's Point of View. I soooo expected Francesca.
And then.... to top it all off, you wrote Robert so well and so in character that I could picture Clint Eastwood romantically sitting there in wistful wonder as he penned a letter to his love.
Brilliance, as usual darling. You are beyond talent!
I read this a little while back, and didn't comment. Obviously I'm back and lost count by now how many times I've read this, and it still brings a tear.
Bridges is one of my favourite films, and love stories. The idea of losing love this way is heartbreaking, and something one may never recover from; much like we see Robert here. It just pains me to see the effect of that day when it could (in my head) have all been so different, but in reality it still would never have been...Francesca would never have gone. *sigh*
You got inside his head so well. And while Francesca's perspective would have been wonderful we are so much more familiar with it, that I'm glad Robert's was explored here.
The day after I watched Bridges I heard the Carrie Underwood song Whenever You Remember, and that song reminded me of Robert and Francesca, and had me wondering what they would have been feeling so long after they'd parted.
This fic gets to the heart of Robert really well, and I think has probably more impact than if you'd written Francesca, because he was always the strong and independent one, the one who'd never needed anyone, so to see him wanting her so very much is all the more heartbreaking.
