Why does no one TELL me when something awesome happens? I had no idea this was here!
I like how careful Eleanor is to keep her priorities in order, as others have said. Her evil, protective/overbearing, stop-at-nothing attitude is very IC.
I also *love* that, as Telanu points out, Eleanor's fucking his girlfriends because she (consciously or unconsciously) wants to fuck him. I love that Raymond seems to have a pattern of getting involved with women his mother won't like, but doesn't seem to form deep connections with most of them (if their willingness to drop him is any indication, at least). It makes me wonder if he might be going after "unsuitable" women because (consciously or unconsciously) he wants to watch Eleanor get possessive, chase them away. ...Or am I reading way too much into this?
Either way, this is fabulous. Thank you so much for writing it! Eleanor is so dangerous and excellent, and the world needs much more fic with her in it. Have you thought about sharing yours here? The comm's pretty dead, but someone might still be reading it.
thank you so much for your awesome comment! i don't think you're reading into this at all: i went into this fic with a lot of that in the background. there's definitely a lot of underlying things going on besides raymond's desire to piss off his mother and eleanor's desire to maintain control.
i'm really glad you liked it! i will definitely have to run over and post this in that community.
I also love my icon (the above kiss one). *blushes* Telanu tweaked it for me, back when I was too oblivious to notice that I, too, had imaging software on my computer.
a lot of underlying things going on
It sounds like you really got into the weirdness that is Raymond and Eleanor. Do you plan on writing anything else in this fandom? *Crosses fingers hopefully*
ooooh i love the weirdness that is Raymond and Eleanor. I really really do...more than is probably healthy. *shifty eyes...* But at least I know I'm not the only one!
There is a possibility that I will write more....I do have 88 fics for this particular challenge and 3 help_haiti auction fics to write...but I can never say no to a request with a prompt. *clears throat* So if I had one, I certainly wouldn't object to writing it...
You're definitely not the only one. I'm currently taking time away from a longer Raymond/Eleanor thing which is hitting some bumps, and which isn't anywhere close to done. This pairing is so delightfully messed-up.
I'm feeling very drained right now (long day, et cetera), but I'll come back tomorrow and leave a prompt for you. It's so nice to know someone else who's into them!
yay, somebody posted to mcandidate!somniesperusJanuary 24 2010, 18:53:00 UTC
But at least I know I'm not the only one!
Definitely not. As pin_drop said, she is (or was) writing something, I might fumble out a couple more stories someday myself, and I've managed to trick two people into writing E/R for help_haiti. Incest for a good cause. Oh, you know what I mean. I think it might be too much to hope that TMC could turn into an actual fandom, but we could definitely create a little niche. There's a lot to work with even if you're not a E/R shipper (Ben and Raymond, for example, had plenty of chemistry too).

I cannot tell you how happy this comment has made me. I'm paused at the moment on the E/R thing, partly because life is in the way and I have no time, and partly because there are a hell of a lot more worms in the can than I thought there would be. I'm really, really fond of the pairing, so the fic will happen eventually -- just not right away.
Your mission, should you choose to accept itpin_dropJanuary 26 2010, 06:59:03 UTC
is Eleanor/Raymond. I believe in options, so here are several. Take or leave -- no obligation, obviously!
1) What really happened in Chesapeake to drive Jocelyn away? Raymond's memories of this seem muddled ("God only knows what she told Jocelyn to chase her away"), but that may be because Eleanor retouched them later on. You've got a lot of room to play around with that.
2) Phone sex. Alternatively, phone sex which is ostensibly a totally ordinary conversation.
3) Voyeurism, possibly accidental. Who's watching, and who's being watched? Is the latter aware of it? Is anyone else involved? Do they talk about it later, or just act like it didn't happen?
4) This one's random, but mistletoe grows wild in Virginia. There appear to be woods behind Eleanor's house. I'm just sayin', when plot devices literally grow on trees, you might as well make use of them.
5) If you're not feeling the Eleanor/Raymond, try this instead: AU. Rosie is assigned to befriend (and covertly investigate) Eleanor instead of Ben. They really dislike each other, but at the same time they can't help feeling a certain grudging mutual respect, too (and remember, Rosie's got to keep things friendly for the sake of reconnaissance). And they're both very magnetic, very sexy women, and with one thing and another... Well. You can see where I'm going with it.
Also, just in case this is useful to you, this transcript seems pretty faithful to the movie.

mission absolutely accepted!
the best part about this? i read this message during my prep period while i was subbing, and spent the rest of the day in the presence of children, fantasizing ways that a mother could get it on with her son.

Welcome to the hell which is my erotic imagination right now. Seriously, I didn't know what squick was until I started trying to write this pairing. Sometimes it catches up with me really suddenly and I have to slam my laptop shut and go freak out in the next room by myself. I don't know how it's possible that I also find them so sexy, but I do. WTF, right?

yup...i totally hear you there. i mean really...there was NO reason for me to be blushing in front of 24 9th graders while i considered my fic alternatives. they have a strange sort of pull on us, don't they? what's the deal, E/R? WTF indeed.
