Well, folks, let's take a looksie and see beyond the "met qualifying score." I got my "detailed" report in the mail today.
And let's just be f'real for a moment -- this is NOT a detailed assessment. I guess it's too much work to calculate an actual score. The minimum that you can get is a 240, and when computing the scores, they stop once they reach 240 and don't bother to tell you what you actually got. I guess it's okay - institutions aren't even really looking to see the detailed score. They just want to know that you didn't fail.
But, they did break down certain areas so I have somewhat of an idea what my strengths/weaknesses are. Let's see.
English Exam.
The first part of the exam, the multiple choice, is broken down into four scoring categories: Most or All Items (correct), Many of the Items, Some of the Items, or Few or no items. All of my multiple choice were in the "many of the items" category. I guess that's actually not bad, considering how poorly I thought I actually did on the exam in the first place.
Now, for the part that really kicks me in the shins: the scores on my open response essays. There are four scoring categories: Thorough, Adequate, Limited, and Weak/Blank/Unscorable. Ugh…it pains me to actually write this and actually tell people what I got. *takes a deep breath and swallows pride* I got limited. LIMITED! What the fucking fuck? You mean to tell me that my essay about themes in The Gettysburg Address and the transitioning from youth to adulthood in "The Sound and the Fury" only exhibited limited integration of knowledge and understanding?
FUUUUUUCK.
I'm trying not to get too upset about it (because of my results on the other exam) but seriously, I expected to do better on this area. I may not know shit about the history of dictionaries and Middle English language, but writing is supposed to be my thing. Fuuck. Maybe I should have found a way to write about sex instead…maybe then I wouldn't have been such an epic failure.
*sulks hardcore*
Okay. Moving on to the other exam.
Communication & Literacy Skills Exam.
The grading scale still applies. Almost all of my multiple choice passages were in the "most or all items" category. YES! Even word meaning, critical reasoning, and study skills. And the grammar parts and mechanics? HELL YES. I rocked that part. *brushes shoulders off* The parts that gave me a little trouble were main idea/detail (some of the items) and writer's purpose (few or no items). Oops.
And as for the open responses (which have the same grading scale), I did much better. On the summary exercise I did a thorough job (*squee*) and for the composition exercise I got an adequate. *sticks tongue out at Limited English Essays.*
I feel immensely better having THESE results as opposed to the vague set that were emailed to me, and it makes this all feel much more real. However, I feel like a prize idiot for doing so poorly on the English Exam's open response. Writing persuasive essays/non-fiction is clearly not my thing.
*sniffles*
But holy crap, I did damn good on the C&L exam! *jumps up and down*
Okay. I'm excited now, Limited results be damned.
And THANK YOU ALL for your congratulations….I couldn't have wished for a better group of people to surround myself with.
