I just watched TV for the first time since May ...

... and I don't love it yet, but I like it.

The new Terminator seems as if it'll certainly be action packed, but with character moments and some sf thrown in in terms of how you can use time travel to your advantage (even more than the movies did).  Only hope?  That time travel won't devolve into a magical plot device anytime the writer's back themselves into a corner.

Both Lena Headey and Summer Glau were great.  The kid playing John wasn't bad, but he was a little meh.  The bad terminator is nothing more than a caricature of a bad guy.  Fortunately, the FBI agent was played by a competent actor who you can tell will eventually be won over to their cause as he continues to track them.

Plot ... hmmm.  We'll see.  I find it interesting that someone else could have made SkyNet and the human resistance of the future doesn't know who.  Having to jump to 2007?  Eh - was it too expensive to have cars, clothes, etc  that were convincingly 1999?  Especially now that you have a 'super-isotope' gun that kills bad terminators?

Still, Summer Glau does a wonderful job of playing a robot trying to be human.  She's a 'new' model (and with the hacking hints dropped earlier, I'm imagining she's been personally programmed by future-John).  Which potentially adds a level of ick, because young John finds her attractive, so older John would too or would at least know young John did.  Did he program his own Buffybot companion-bot?  Heh.

It's also good to see women kicking ass again on TV.  It looks like Summer will get fight scenes every week, and that's a thing of beauty.
