First off, thanks to the people who voted in the sf poll. I've been feeling a bit disconnected to my first love (books) in focusing on TV and fandom, and I wondered how universal my tastes are. Answer - kind of. (laughs) Mostly in that I never read the Golden Age 'classics' anymore.
I've also been wondering what's happening to the face of sf. By that I mean, you used to know where to go to check out the up-and-coming writers: Asimov's, Analog, Science Fiction and Fantasy Magazine. But if magazine sales are down across the board, and internet content is taking off, what has that done to sf? It looks like the three above do some online, and there seem to be a bunch of newer online magazines out too. I'd like to know more because I don't think I've been reading enough. So if anyone has a feel, I'd love to hear it. And for those of you who read short stories in mags or online, where do you find them?
So first off, here's a little thanks if you like them. In celebration of those amazing, psychedelic covers from the 60s and early 70s, I made these:
[Typical credit thing please.] And yes, that's my only animated icon ever. I made it a while back and to see that I can do animation with GIMP, and I'll try to never do it again.
Now, another kind of thanks. '
Declaration of Interdependence' was nominated at the
Universal Fanfiction Open Awards for Best Dr. Horrible. Also there's a new BtVS awards site that focuses on angst and dark fic,
absence_oflight. Go and check it out and nom quick because it's already filling up. '
New Kind of Same,' '
She Always Wanted to be Harriet the Spy,' and '
I'll Have Your Guts for Garlands' are nomed in various categories.
Thanks so much - I'm very honored. It's nice to see both small fandoms (Dr. Horrible) and angst getting some love.
