Book Trailers

It's my last Mon eve of freedom, so I'll talk about my favorite subject - books.

So we're such a visual culture now that they're begun making trailers for books.  Yes, a book needs something like a movie preview to get noticed anymore.  ???

I've heard this is becoming more and more common and, sadly, it probably is somewhat effective. We've come into a far too visual age when it takes a video to sell a book.

I can see it working for a Dan Brown type thing ro a Harlequin romance, but Stephenson's books are very long and highly complex. Video people aren't going to get it.

A trailer for a book? Now I've seen everything!

It seems to me publishers are using this medium to grab people that wouldn't normally read a book, or if they are seasoned readers, a particular genre. Which, of course, leads me to believe it's more about initial copies sold (hook them with a hook) then content, level of enjoyment, etc.

Exactly! Because as I said to ozma, Stephenson's books are very long and highly complex. Video people aren't going to get it.
