Well hell. My 16 mo old quite nice HP laptop crapped out this weekend, 4 months beyonds its warranty. I was able to find out what caused it. It seems the GPUs from nVidia get too hot for the laptop, and they paid some $s to HP over the issue. Unfortunately, even though mine has one of the GPUs in question, it has not been blessed by HP as being one of the models they are extending the warranty on. Based on what I've read, they will want $400 to fix it, likely with another that will fail in the future. Yeah right, that makes sense. I anticipate an hard fight coming with HP to fix it for free, which they should. I so don't have the time and energy to deal with this right now.
