Oh, this is good. You figure, in the last 7 years, she's only done this... how many times? Hundreds? Several hundred? And maybe sometimes she feels like an assistant, and other times she feels like a sister, or a mother, or a roommate, always resisting the urge to put herself in their shoes because that might say more about herself than she wants to admit - and yet, at a deeper level, she can't help but to do just that.

And when being professional brings down only ridicule, she opens up the arsenal and proves that she, too, has claws and emotional semi-automatics. And when they cry, something sympathetic twists in her chest. And when they're cruel, it's all too easy to put them in their place. And when they've fallen into the tempting trap of believing that maybe they could be The One for him, that maybe it wasn't so casual, or maybe it could be more, and with an innocence unlooked for they peek around the corner, expecting to see him... she can't help but to be conflicted. Because she's seen the caring man, the humorous man, the all-too-human man they want to wake up to. It's the man she always ends up waking up to, in a strange metaphorical way, and it's the man they'll never find.

But then again, they do have the privilege of falling asleep next to him, which is something that is beyond what she ever can do.

Beautiful. Thank you.

Thanks! I'm thrilled you were able to get so much out of it! I admit I was shooting for the idea that she hates that a part of her wants to give in to his charms and hopes he truly cares, so she hates when she's sees these women show a similar vulnerability. I agree - the T/P relationship (pre-his kidnapping and his changes) is so conflicted and messy that there's no way for her to truly think clearly about it.

Thank you!
