Very nice! I always imagined Jayne would have more trouble with the aftermath than he would ever let on. Seems right that it would show through in one of his girls.

Lovely, as always, Ubi!

Thanks! I just got the idea that Jayne likes to think of himself as a killer on some level, but that the reality of what a true killer would be like, the Reavers, might make him reassess himself.

I see Jayne, not particularly as a killer, but as a soldier. He does what needs to be done, either under orders, for self preservation, or for gain(probably not quite in that order... :-) ), but I think he draws the line at being something quite out of control.

At heart he is a mummy's boy, and all mummy's boys need a big hug to get them over the scraped knee... Now what the big hug and the scraped knee turn into in the Serenity scale, only the Reevers (and ship of your choice) get to decide!

Well, I see Mal and Zoe as soldiers and Jayne as a mercenary. And I think he takes a lot of pride in his skill. But when does being good at killing cross the line between machine-like and insanity? They seem opposites yet I think they make an interesting juxtaposition.

But I will agree that there's a heart under the big lug's tough exterior, and I think that's what's breaking through here.

Oh, very nice! Yes, even Jayne, who likes to be thought of as a tough guy, would have been freaked by the Reavers, but wouldn't have wanted to let on. But River would have seen through him anyway. I enjoyed this slice-of-life look at Jayne - and his gun.

Thanks! I can see Jayne not wanting to admit the Reavers would have affected him much, but then having to deal with it through his guns. Although I must admit, I can't see him doing this to Vera!

But he wants to be a machine - a killing, sexing, eating machine.

Jayne is such a mercenary that his identification with his skill is so hard to reconcile with weakness.

Standing - just standing till the sun moves his shadow, covering Betsy.

I like the space of time implied here, the reflection and contemplation this hints at.

... covering Betsy...

I like looking at language literally and figuratively; both ways here create interesting dichotomies. Well done.

Thanks! I'm really glad you liked it!

I feel that things often hit Jayne physically, so I wanted his confusion as to how to deal with his realization to freeze him in one spot for a time - it's good to hear it worked for you.
