I'm glad for Chloe's happy ending. She's decided to go back to what made her happiest: reporting. She's decided to go back to being herself, rather than being Clark's sidekick. In the beginning of Smallville, she was pretty much her own person with her own goals and dreams; then, when she found out about Clark's secret, she sort of became, Gods forgive me, a groupie of sorts. Kind of like a true believer. Her love life was another matter. I didn't like that Clark led her on while he snuck around with Lana; he could have been honest with her and she wouldn't have gone to Lionel after she caught Clark and Lana together. I didn't mind that she didn't have a boyfriend for a while; a woman doesn't have to define herself by being with a man. I didn't like the fact that Lex used that as ammunition when Chloe found out about Lex and Lana.
I wasn't sure what I would think about Chloe and Oliver. At first, I saw a starstruck Chloe meeting a very suave Oliver. That passed when they had to join forces to save Clark and Bart from Lex and 33.1. Chloe shifted into Watchtower mode (even before she knew she would be joining Oliver's group) and helped guide them into the facility. Then when Lois and Oliver got involved, she was happy for Lois. I do wonder, however, if they talked about Oliver. Which then would explain why Chloe didn't want Lois and Clark to know about their situation - awkward. After Henry/Jimmy's death, and Davis Bloom, maybe Chloe didn't want to be hurt anymore by losing her loved ones, so she withdrew and became the ghost in the machine. I wondered when Oliver noticed her. Was it in Roulette when he realized she saved him from himself? It's been said the writers noticed the chemistry between Allison Mack and Justin Hartley in that scene in Roulette and decided to develop that. But of course, Allison Mack can have chemistry with anybody - I wish they explored that further. I was surprised that Chloe was kind of oblivious to Oliver's overtures, but I guess he noticed that he shouldn't push. In Warrior, he dropped a hint and ever perceptive Chloe picked right up on it. I was worried at first that Oliver would just use Chloe, but I guess Chloe used Oliver, in the beginning. She didn't realize that she was different from the others that Oliver had been with, as she knew everything about him - good and bad. He didn't have to hide anything from her, and she didn't have to hide anything from him. Kind of like the inverse of Clark and Lois. When Chloe realized that she wanted to live her life after all, she had burned her bridges. But with Oliver's help, she could actually see a possibility of a life outside of Watchtower.
When Lex fired her for the key that Lionel had planted in her desk (Lionel did do that, right?), I think a part of her died. I always wondered why after Lex left, Chloe didn't go back to the Daily Planet and try to get her job back. There was Tess Mercer, Lex's protege (at the time), who might have had issues with her hire, but I would think that Tess would want to spy on Chloe. Chloe, knowing this, would not have wanted that, due to her involvement with the Justice League and Clark.
Why didn't Chloe and Clark get together? Too much blood under the bridge? Missed opportunities? I think the crucial difference between Lois and Chloe is that Lois treated him like a guy, whereas Chloe sort of worshiped him. And when you want to be a normal guy, the last thing you want is someone worshiping you. Lois gave him perspective whereas Chloe pushed him toward a destiny he wasn't quite ready for. And even though Chloe may love him, she has moved on.
I hope I will see more of Chloe Sullivan's adventures. I hope I find out what her alias is in Star City. I hope DC will expound on that in the future, rather than having her be Jimmy's love interest.
I realize that some may not agree with me, and that's okay. I just wanted to get that off my chest.
