A first taste of Oz

I've locked myself in my room with books... neither one nor two was enough, I had to read 3. Granted they were generally fluff, but the new Harry Potter was among them. 6 hours of Potter should have done even me in.

I've had my phone off all day, knowing full well at least once person was going to call me. I'll apologize to him later.

I've missed not one but two events tonight. One being a party filled with new people/new opportunities

I am, as you may have discerned, being highly anti-social.

This is to blame:

Australia wasn't a total success as far as trips go, but there were some memorable moments. Confronting the Cassowary, a creature that looks like it should have gone extinct with the dinosaurs long, long ago was one. This picture doesn't convey it, but I swear it's eyes were sizing me up and down to determining if i'd put up a fight in a manner that was mean, vicious very smart.

And my lazy day did on Fitzroy Island (above), which left me with little else than a sunburn and a most amusing comment by what chi chi would call an "old fagoon" who declared i may just be too sophisticated for australia! I don't know if it was the statement or the manner in which it was delivered that makes me chuckle still.

I guess I was not enthusiastic enough about what was on offer in Cairns at night. Shenanigans, The Wool Shed.... it was the university experience i never had, complete with televised sports and drunken frat boys. Still I did my best and with and adventurous spirit I managed to quickly find myself a hangover. It seems drinking helps make one a little less sophisticated!

There was some good fun thrown in the mix of bad luck and bad flying. One of these days I'll sort through the lot of pictures and share more.

First some much needed sleep.
