Blue Mountains

Sydney isn't so bad really...once you get out of it that is!

Went on a 3 hour bushwalk through the Blue Mountains. The word "walk" is a bit misleading as it was more of a hike. A hike with many opportunities to die a terrible death by falling hundreds of meters to the ground. It was GREAT!! We descended nearly 300 meters to from our starting point, first through gum trees and then down through a rainforest climate where the cycads were bigger then men and 15 feet accross. I wish I had more time to take it all in but hopping like a mountains goat over rocks slick with runoff and moss took up most of my attention. The adrenaline sush was fanatstic I'm still feeling the after effects.

The masochist in me wants to go back for more, but my thighs might go on strike if I do. Hopefully they'll be up for doing the Bondi to Coogee (however that is spelled) walk tomorrow.

I was volunteered to be the taster of the group and had every thing from lilly pilly's, sassafrass and green currents to the sweet nectar of the bush devil flower. If all goes well I won't die a terrible death from food posioning. I didn't fall down and cliffs and my camera came back from the dead so it seems my luck has taken a turn for the better.

This trip has been the farthest I've been from home since we were in the Phillippines nearly 14 years ago. I'm literally at the other side of the world away from everyone I know and on my walk today was a guy who recognized me from NYU. Turns out we were in Western European Politics together back in 1999. He's in New Zealand now studying for his Masters and had come over to Sydney with his sister to visit and happend to be staying at the same hostel as me. There was another New Yorker as well with us and a friend of his used to work on the Xbox team at McCann on my floor. If I were to ever go to Antarctica I'd probably run into a childhood friend with my luck!

I'm starting to feel my body crash. I want to curl up right now in a warm bed and just sleep but I might persevere and attempt to take in Sydeny by night. I'm so used to being alone that the communal living doesn't wear on me well. I think I might have to splurge for a single soon.

edit Sydney is gettign much better. I think being in the center of town was just a bit depressing. Had lovely dinner on darling harbour with new friends. booked a single in cairns. life is good.

oh and i had some kangaroo :)
