Entry 2: Video

[Angua is looking a bit sleepy, a bit disheveled, and more than a bit annoyed.]

Well, I suppose I've found out what these "Barge comas" are all about, now. Has anything happened since the Admiral was reinstated?

[She glances down at something in her hand, then holds up a file.]

Other than this, anyway. Which of you is Jack Carter?

inmate: jack carter, time to go to work, always a cop

That's me. You must be Miss Angua.

[Interest definitely piqued by pretty blonde lady who he is probably about to underestimate dreadfully.]

[He already has!]

That's Captain Angua, actually. Captain von Uberwald, in point of fact, but we can stick with Captain Angua for the time being.

What sort of captain are you?

Police. Ankh-Morpork City Watch, Special Division, to be exact.

[And because she gets the feeling Carter is that sort of man, she fishes the leather-and-gold chain she wears round her neck out from under her clothes and holds up the badge on the end.]

[Well. Looks like a badge; doesn't matter that the design's not one Carter's ever seen before. And he can smell "copper" from a hundred paces; frankly, it's a bit of a let-down to find that the pretty lady is one.]

Ankh what? Where is that-somewhere in bloody Cornwall?

[It's certainly not oop north, wherever it is.]

Didn't know they had the A4 Branch out there.

[This is a rather sexist joke, naturally.]

[She hasn't the faintest idea what he's talking about, but she keeps a straight face, tucking her badge back away under her shirt.]

Not exactly, no. I'm not from your world. Mine's called the Disc. And Ankh-Morpork is something like your London, I think.

[And she does, indeed, have an accent that sounds almost English... although also just a little bit not.]

[He's sort of noticed the accent, but he put it down to the whole "Von Uberwald" part of her name.]

You don't say. Well, they do tell me anything's possible here.

So. What have you got in mind for me, Captain Angua?

[Also? He makes no secret of watching her put the badge away.]

[She switches to private, then holds up the file, raising a brow.]

I suppose we could talk about this, if you like. You've led a very... eventful life, Mr. Carter.

[STARE.]

What. Is that?

Your inmate file. It's a lot more detailed than I thought it would be...

[This isn't said with any particular malice. Probably. She opens the file and glances down at the page, then looks back up, seeming to notice his expression for the first time.]

Well, you had to know that I would need to know what brought you here, didn't you?

[Still the gobsmacked look for a moment, and then the mask slides back into place, like it was never gone.]

Course. Don't you think though, Captain Angua, that this is something better discussed in person?

Certainly, if you like. What room are you in?

Level 3, room 10.

[And so Angua makes her way down to Carter's, folder in hand and a healthy dose of cool cynicism well at hand, because having read the file cover to cover, she has the distinct feeling that her first inmate is going to be a tough one.

Still getting used to the idea of being in charge of things, she tries to make her knock sound as authoritative as possible.] Mr. Carter.

[Carter answers the door, using his physical bulk to block the way-a little power play; despite the invitation, he's demonstrating that she'll come in when he wants her to. He also gives her a pretty frank and obvious look-over. Not leering, but definitely checking her out.]

Captain Angua.

[Oh, for gods' sake. Men. Honestly. She gives him an even look, pretending not to notice his roving eye, waiting with seeming (albeit dwindling) patience for him to move aside.

She thinks that's the right move, anyway. She's walking a fine line, here, she can already tell. One misstep and she'll never get a proper chance.]
