I just realized that I have yet to give you all a rundown on my roomies.
Let's start with Anna, since she is the one I share an actual room with. Anna is awesome. I met her on the Mears Shuttle Transport from the airport. We were doing the casual small talk with the other two college program students in the van and she mentioned bringing her laptop. The other two made some sort of comment about not bringing theirs down and I said that I had to have mine, due to online classes and needing my WoW fix. Anna smiled and said, "I play too, but I'm a Horde."
To which I respond, "Me too!" Anna is an Asian from Texas. The other two students thought we said "whore" and had no idea what WoW was.
During our processing, when we actually got to Vista Way, Anna and I managed to go through almost the entire process together. When we got to the section where they ask about your housing preferences, I asked if Anna wanted to room with me and she said yes. We chose to live in the newer complex, Patterson Court, which meant that the option that was left open to us was an apartment with three bedrooms (meaning six girls total would be in the apartment). Anna and I were cool with that.
During the taking of ID pictures, we met Julie, who had also just finished her intake paperwork. While we were waiting for a bus to take us to Patterson, we discovered that Julie was going to be in the apartment with us.
Eventually, Anna and I were able to get to Patterson, where we met our other roommates, Christina, Francheska (that is how she spells it), and Staci.
Anna is really laid back. Has geek type interests, but also is in a sorority (or was in one). I have yet to ask how that came to be without sounding like a major bitch (the sororities in my area are pretty anti-geek). She's a heavy sleeper (yay) and really generous. I'm fairly certain this woman would give you the shirt off her back if you needed it and asked nicely.
Julie is also really laid back, for the most part. She is a happy go-lucky person and a bit of a health nut. I'm cool with that because it is harder for me to fall into unhealthy habits when I'm around people that are healthy. Julie has been training for her role as a lifeguard and I've been helping with some of the more health related portions of her studying. This woman, however, is determined to "be a hawk" for me when it comes to men, especially after finding out I'm a virgin. She's really fun, and not a bitch about it. I was talking to her about make up and stuff and she mentioned giving me a make-over. I'm fairly certain that isn't going to happen for a while yet, but I'm open-minded.
Next is Francheska. This is her second time in the Disney College Student Program. This chick is hilarious. She is from Puerto Rico and hard core in to Disney and DDR. She is kind of quiet at times, which is cool, but when she talks, she talks really fast. She plans on applying for the professional internship program here and wants to get a job as Stitch.
Staci is pretty neat. I haven't gotten to really have a whole lot of interaction with her, but that's okay. She joins in the group and is really nice. She, Christina, and Julie like to walk everywhere and they are all on a health kick. I've gone swimming with Christina and Staci a couple of times. She is from a small farm town, but she seems to be adapting really well to all of this.
Christina has been in this country since she was a child, but she is originally from Lebanon. She is another sorority girl, but is really open-minded and welcoming. She's hilarious and is one of those types of girls that gets dressed up with make-up and everything to go to the supermarket. She has had some health issues in the past (cancer, etc) and has said she's glad to have me in the house since she can sometimes be a bit of a hypochondriac.
Almost every girl in this house, except for Francheska and me, have some sort of connection to a sorority. I have a feeling that having a group of really awesome woman that are connected with sororities is going to do more for dealing with my prejudice about them than knowing the girls in sororities back home.
I am so so glad that I have these girls as roommates. There hasn't been any drama yet, and I don't think there is going to be any real conflict of personalities.
