How To Make Spaghetti

For Christmas, I got a pasta machine. Before that point, I had never really thought about how pasta is made. A few months ago, I had some friends over to make homemade spaghetti. I apparently forgot to post the results at that time, so here are the pictures:

First, make your dough. On the most basic level, pasta dough is just flour, salt, and water. Here we added spinach:

Using your trusty pasta machine, you crank the dough through two metal rollers until it's flat. This may require sending the pasta dough through two or three times.

Once your pasta dough is flat, you have a few options. You can send it through another part of the pasta machine to cut it into strips of varying sizes. Different roller attachments give you different widths of pasta. Or you can use the flat pieces and make ravioli. We decided to run it through and make a wider pasta.

Here's all the pasta laid out on wax paper. Add some flour to the pasta to help keep it from sticking.

Once the pasta is in pieces, boil it. It will generally cook faster than store bought pasta since it's already soft.

Now that you've got your pasta, make a homemade sauce with the spices of your choice:

And here is the final product. It really does taste better than preservative filled store bought pasta.
