it is neo time

Today, I resolved to get myself a new neo geo. So I headed up to Taylortown, and stopped at the one booth. The fellow there had said last time that they had a Japanese neo in, and I had told him that if mine was unfixable, I'd be in the market for one.

Well, he wasn't in when I arrived, but his dad was. Turns out he's the big Neo Geo guy, and had JUST gotten in a modded unit a couple days ago. UniBIOS and an LED mod, specifically. The price? $265.

:O

I mentioned I just needed the console itself, to which he changed the price down to 200 even, and my busted neo. I told him the neo wasn't back at my house yet from the repair guy; so he just went with 200. Well, I was sold on that. I ended up hanging around with him for a half hour while his sons got the neo geo from home. It was pretty cool, we talked collecting, selling, all sorts of stuff. The guy is enamored with Neo Geo stuff; he's always loved everything about the machine, and the games. Anyway I bought the neo, along with a copy of Ladybug for Colecovision on a whim, and also snagged a new Xbox for my parents, as they requested me to check and see if I could find one cheap. When the bank opens Tuesday, my brother will pay me back for that one.

To help take the sting off of the neo, my ma said she'd cover my cable bill this month, along with the cash for my sister's boyfriend's birthday gift. My dad is back to work on account of the American Axle strike being over, and he should be going back to his actually good paying job soon. Which is good enough for me.

The unibios is fun. I can mess with region and console settings; Matrimelee got set to Japanese arcade settings, for example. And I can play around with cheats. This culminated in me testing the Viewpoint simultaneous 2 player mode, which, though advertised, is not normally available in the arcade or the console versions. I'm gonna have fun with this thing :D Also the reset button lights up when its on!
