Both the school paper and the News Herald want me to write articles about the Olmos interview. Bad news is that there's no transcript of the speech. So now I'm on the desperate track to see if I can get a hold of someone from the sorority that hosted the event that was there, and get a rundown on what the speech entailed. I COULD just write about the interview, but I feel a bit more background information would really put this article up to my standards.
Yesterday I got to introduce some people to the Vectrex at the shmupmeet. Rip Off, Clean Sweep, Spike, and Space Wars all went over pretty well. To run down every other person not me on these games:
Rip Off is a badass arcade port where you and another person must defend these triangles from maruading pirate tanks. You have infinite lives; the game only ends once all your triangles are stolen. The AI is very nice. Since the pirates only have close range weapons, they will frequently work together, with some distracting you while the others go for your hoard. Great co-op stuff.
Clean Sweep is a Pac-Man clone where you're a vacuum cleaner. Spike is a platformer wherein you move a ladder around to work your way up to the top, and Space Wars is a nifty game of two ships trying to kill each other.
I am very much looking forward to finishing up my great amounts of work for my one class this week, so that I can devote my energies to Japanese and that history course. And my internship is up in three weeks, which is a plus.
What's all this got to do together? My schedule sucks for weekends. Consider that I work Fridays and Saturdays, leaving me free Friday nights, Saturday nights, and Sundays. I have numerous possibilities for these days, as on any given one of these days I can:
See my girlfriend, who lives 40 minutes away and, like me, works pretty much every weekday.
Go to Keshawn's fighting game nights on Saturdays, so that I won't get totally destroyed in Chicago this June, if I manage MWC.
Hang with Christine, who also lives like 30 minutes away, but having formed a traditional "hang out and watch stuff" routine with, I like to fit in there. Technically weekdays I can do this too, but this tends to be better since we get more tv time.
Other events: Holidays, parties, etc.
Homework
It's maddening for a guy who likes to space out stuff throughout the week. Hopefully the end of the semester will help with this in some way, though I'm not sure how. But I hate juggling this shit. Maybe I'm just too social for my own good?
