MUSIC IS AWESOME. a.k.a. the Reel Big Fish concert review.

I went to see Reel Big Fish in concert last night, and it was AWESOME. I don't go to live shows very much, so this was a treat for me anyway, and they're pretty much my favorite band that's still together and touring. (I mean, my absolute favorite band is the Beatles, but, well...yeah.)

Yeah, they opened the concert with "Trendy," which I think is pretty much standard for them? I've only seen them twice, so not really sure.

I wish I could remember the set list, because it was an awesome show. Things
I know they played:
Join the Club (which I totally had to look up, because it's one of the ones where I can sing along with, but don't know the name of unless I look XD )
The Kids Don't Like It/Thank You for Not Moshing
She Has a Girlfriend Now
S.R.
Where Have You Been
Cannibal
Sayonara Senorita
Down in Flames
Slow Down
Ban the Tube Top
Good Thing
The Set Up
Another F.U. Song
Brown Eyed Girl
Why Do All Girls Think They're Fat

And then ended with
Sell Out
Beer
Take On Me

...huh, I think that was, actually, pretty much the whole show, though not necessarily in that order. Bloody hell, it was amazing.

ETA: Huh. This set list from last Friday's show somewhere in California looks pretty much exactly like they set they played in Chicago, except that they played "Join the Club" instead of "I'll Never Be."

Some notes on the band in general: Aaron's sideburns are ridiculous. I'm kind of disappointed that Scott left, but I totally get that he wants to go be a family man now. THEY'VE GOT A SAX PLAYER AGAIN! Which is exciting, and apparently they're calling him Saxl Rose XD I can't recall right now what his real name is, but I gigglesnorted when Aaron introduced him. The Rabbit grew his hair out. So now he's this long-haired glasses-wearing massive-biceped ginger drummer, which is, really, pretty fucking hot. (I apparently have a thing for arm muscles. Zac Hanson, I blame you for this. Damn drummers and their biceps XD )

I have determined that I definitely have no desire to be one of the set people at a music venue. Why, you ask? Because much as I'd like to get up close and personal with the drummer, adjusting part of the drum kit WHILE THE DRUMMER IS BANGING ON CYMBALS SIX INCHES FROM YOUR HEAD does not seem like a fun time.

I actually bought a t-shirt at the show. Which is the first concert tee I've purchased since the Mustard Plug show I was at...god, probably back in 2002-2003ish. But it's an awesome shirt. In the style of One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, but instead of Blue Fish it's Reel Big Fish. (Um. See icon, which I totally made just for this entry.) I'm wearing it today, though I honestly hadn't realized how beery it smelled (the venue was apparently full of beer fumes, who knew?) until I got to work today. So that was kind of icky, but kind of evened out by the fact that I grinned like a crazy person every time I saw my awesome shirt in the mirror. (Also, I totally had to explain it to one of my lab-mates, because apparently Dr Seuss isn't something kids read in Taiwan?)

Streetlight Manifesto, who are co-headlining the tour and played right before RBF, were pretty awesome too, but I didn't know any of their songs. To be honest, the only one of their songs I actually know is "Keasbey Nights", which they didn't play. I think I need to get more of their music, though, because it was pretty damn awesome.
ETA: I lied, they did play one song I know, because apparently they do a cover of "Such Great Heights," which was pretty sweet. I love that song.
